We all run through deep waters and rough patches from time to time. Some seem to make it through while others become stuck or drown all together. Trials help build and shape us into who God desires us to be and therefore we should always see and hear God through our trials. It is quite difficult to see past the giant waves that try and engulf us, but as long as we keep our sight set on the Lord we shall prevail and come out stronger and wiser than before.
“But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, ‘it is a ghost!’ and they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.’” (Matthew 14:24-27 NKJV).
When the raging sea of life and troubles comes our way, we should be sensitive to the Spirit and hear Jesus calling from the midst, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” God wants us to prosper and to walk on top of the waters, not buried underneath its tossing waves. We must stand up in faith and walk out of the boat knowing all will be well with our sight set on Jesus.
“And Peter answered Him and said, ‘Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.’ So He said, ‘Come.’ And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, ‘Lord, save me!’” (14:28-30).
When we take the leap of faith and set our sights on Jesus, we must then remain focused on Him. As soon as we take our sight off the Lord that is when we begin to drown and become overwhelmed by the world, troubles, and situations. Faith is essential when walking on the water with God and therefore whenever we feel a slither of doubt come up, we should cry out to Jesus to grab ahold of our hand and set us back on track.
“And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, ‘O you of little faith, why did you doubt?’ And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, ‘Truly You are the Son of God.’” (14:31-33).
No matter what situation or troubles you may be facing today, always keep faith and keep your focus on Jesus and He will guide you and keep you walking on top of the waters. Faith and focus go hand and hand and with God at the center, anything is possible!
“Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; My God will hear me.” (Micah 7:7 NKJV).
