In Season 7 “The Celebrity Apprentice,” TV personality Leeza Gibbons was declared the winner, and she received the grand prize of $250,000 for her charity of choice: Leeza’s Care Connection, an organization that helps people with Alzheimer’s Disease and their loved ones. (Second place went to TV journalist/talk-show host Geraldo Rivera.) “The Celebrity Apprentice,” which is executive produced and hosted by Donald Trump (who chooses the winner), features celebrities competing for their selected charities. Gibbons was named the winner in a live season finale that NBC televised on Feb. 16, 2015. The season finale’s after-party was held at Trump Tower in New York City’s midtown Manhattan. I had a chance to briefly interview several of the stars at the after-party. Here is what this “Celebrity Apprentice” star said.
Considering all that you’ve done in the entertainment industry, how difficult was “The Celebrity Apprentice” in comparison?
What’s especially surprising about being on the show for me is although I’m known for my career as an actor, my passion really is directing. This show gave me more opportunities to direct than anything else in show business.
After you left the show, you said all along that you thought Leeza Gibbons deserved to win. What makes her a special contestant?
Leeza epitomizes the definition of a good leader. She’s able to direct and lead without making people feel like they’re being controlled or spoken over. She’s a natural leader. That’s a major, major tool for anyone who steps into the shoes of a director.
What’s your dream directing project?
Children. I love children. I would love to direct a children’s movie, like a “Bad News Bears.” I would have so much fun.
What’s next for you?
I’m a commercial helicopter pilot, so I’m working not so much in showbiz anymore, but I’m working in that business. I’m a tour pilot. I’m a charter pilot in Los Angeles. And my long-term goal is to buy a helicopter for this guy right here [he points to Donald Trump].
Do you think being on “The Celebrity Apprentice” will help you in your aerial business?
There might be a chance for me in business. I’d like to start my own helicopter-charter company. I can definitely use some things I learned from the show.
