A piece of lost luggage found 20 years later came as a source of astonishment to a woman from Tucson, Arizona, this week. The passenger says that her airline had lost her baggage over two decades ago, and she had completely forgotten about the incident since then. NBC Bay Area News reports this Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, that the owner is now stunned to have learned not only was her missing property restored, but she had $600 worth of art supplies inside it as well.
Quite a few passengers have likely had their baggage misplaced, but lost luggage found 20 years later is enough for even the hardiest travelers to be left in awe. A woman from Arizona was apparently one lucky individual this week who received a phone call that her long-forgotten baggage had been recovered and was being returned to her. Over two decades had passed since she had laid eyes on her property, and the woman was apparently shocked to rediscover what was within.
According to The Consumerist News, the lucky recipient received the memorable phone call earlier this week from the Transportation Security Administration. The message was regarding lost and found property, and the woman thought Tucson International Airport personnel were simply talking about something she had forgotten during her most recent trip. However, she soon learned that the baggage article was in fact a bag that had disappeared after a trip to Las Vegas. It had gone missing in 1994 — many years have passed since then.
Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of this story — aside from the recovered luggage itself — are what was inside of them. The Arizona woman found old notes she had composed, as well as $600 worth in terms of various art supplies. Needless to say, it was something of a nostalgic and even emotional moment for the passenger. If anything, the bag served as an unintended time capsule of sorts.
“Well it’s a handwritten note with my notes and address of 20 years ago,” she says of a piece of paper tucked into the bag filled with art supplies valued at about $600. “When I looked at this note, it was dated, it dated me as 20 years ago! And I was just absolutely blown away.”
The reason behind this lost luggage found 20 years later miracle? Interestingly enough, there is no clear excuse given by the airport or the Transportation Security Administration. The woman says that she was told there may have been the shuffling and misplacement of certain items in the past, but the cause of this lost bag for such an extended period of time ultimately remains a mystery. Perhaps what is most important is that the baggage is now back with its rightful owner.
“Items that pre date our agency are interesting. But I understand that we just did some shuffling of equipment at the airport, so it’s quite possible that we came across something that somebody left unattended for a long period of time,” a TSA spokesman noted.
Ironically enough, this wasn’t the only bag that the airline had lost. The woman who found her luggage 20 years later with $600 in products inside also recently received word that another bag was missing from an August trip. Incredibly, this too showed up earlier this month, so it certainly seems this is one fortunate woman whose things have a special way of coming back to her. Of course, they may not always do so in the most timely or traditional of manners.
