The Louis Tomlinson scandal in the headlines today is over the 23-year-old “One Direction” singer rolling a marijuana joint. While this might be considered a “scandal” in some zip codes, in other zip codes what he is doing is perfectly legal! “A new Louis Tomlinson drug scandal is making headlines on the Internet,” writes The Spread It on April 24.
Is anyone really surprised that a twenty-something pop star is allegedly partaking in some cannabis therapy? With pot legal for recreational use in a few states today and scores of other states allowing the use of the substance for medicinal purposes, the days of pot being a scandal are gone. Some might even say that ship has sailed!
Someone who was in Tomlinson’s company recently took a snapshot of the heart-throb as he appears to be rolling a joint. This was posted online and it went viral because of who this young man is, a pop star. The Metro U.K. reports today that Tomlinson was photographed with a “suspicious substance,” and they too made mention of a scandal around this possible rolling of a joint. Some may suggest that this doesn’t seem like a scandal when there are certain zip codes that consider this a legal activity for an adult.
Granted, “One Direction” fans are young and it might not be the best activity for Tomlinson’s young fans to see because they might tend to mimic what he is doing. With many of his fans being pre-teens, they are a bit young for this. As far as a 23-year-old man rolling a joint in the privacy of his own space, how can this be spun into a scandal?
According to The Spread It, this picture was taken the same day Tomlinson was seen out and about partying in several London clubs. After 48-hours of binge-clubbing, Tomlinson made his way back to his SoHo hotel with a bunch of groupies in tow.
The girls in that group exited his hotel room at about four in the morning. This is not a rare activity among young celebrity musicians. He is young, free and out for a good time, it is not as if he is leaving his wife and kids at home while doing this. Groups like the Stones had this activity down-pat half a century ago!
It sounds like the band is on shaky ground, but not because this guy allegedly rolled a joint. Harry Styles had wanted to exit the group for a while now and Zayn Malik beat him to the punch. Styles is looking to start a solo career, which seems to be the fate of many of the stand-out stars of past boy bands.
Many of these boy bands start together in their teens and as they grow they change as they move into adulthood. With one member gone and another with one foot out the door, the band may be looking at a split in the future, but rolling a joint most likely isn’t going to be the catalyst of its demise.
