Lupita Nyong’o’s dress was reportedly stolen after she wore the expensive, custom-made gown to the Oscars. According to TMZ on Feb. 26, the fancy frock, which was adorned with thousands of Akoya pearls, was allegedly snagged from the 2014 Academy Award winner’s Los Angeles hotel room while she was not there.
No doubt this gown was very special to Nyong’o. In fact, while talking to reporters on the red carpet prior to the Oscars, Lupita said that she actually took part in coming up with the frock alongside ace designer Calvin Klein.
While on the sartorial runway at the 67th Academy Awards, the actress mentioned that she was hoping to have the pearl-covered creation be both “fluid” and “liquid.” In general, this fashionista wanted to have her style statement be “an homage to the sea.”
Indeed, Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa didn’t let her down. Lupita ended up wearing one of the most talked about dresses of the evening — in a good way. The gown, which was said to be worth some $150,000, likely had become her pride and joy after receiving so many rave reviews. The popular actress looked so lovely during the big day as well as during the broadcast that evening while wearing this spectacular garment.
So, when the very same dress was taken from her accommodations at The London West Hollywood, the beautiful actress was most likely devastated. TMZ states that law enforcement was alerted by Lupita that she was been gone from her temporary digs all day on Wednesday and when she returned in the evening, the white creation was missing.
So where is Lupita Nyong’o’s dress and what is the crook going to do with said frock? Video is being checked by police to try get a clue as to who might have been the thief.
As to where this lawbreaker is going to take this high-end fashion statement, nobody but that person knows for sure but perhaps he or she is going to hawk the gown to a manufacturer to be copied and then sold on the black market. Or not. Perhaps the dress will be dismantled and then the precious pearls will be headed to the black market. Or not.
In any case, serious attempts are being made to find the culprit. Meanwhile, identifying the dress should be no problem since it is one of a kind, photographed hundreds of times, and dripping in pearls, gems not normally found sewn on an entire gown.
Yes, this frock is famous. And why shouldn’t it be? Ever since last year’s Oscars, Lupita Nyong’o has become a fashionista to watch on the red carpet. The “12 Years A Slave” thespian rocked a pale blue Prada gown on that Oscars red carpet that had the collective fashion community complimenting this choice as one of the best seen at the 2014 Academy Awards.
And now, after Lupita Nyong’o’s dress for 2015 was stolen, this act has become a collective slap in the proverbial face to all involved, from her stylist to the design house that made the gown to the actress herself. That said, stay tuned as concerned parties seek to find out what happened to Nyong’o’s treasured Calvin Klein.
