Maaj Resort Wear is a new resort wear line of luxurious caftans, tunics and other resort-appropriate wear for holidays on the beach or year-round such as in its headquarters hometown of Miami. Maaj Resort Wear Owner, Madhu Pallo, shares all of the details.
How was the Maaj Resort Wear concept born?
I have always had a passion for beautiful clothing ever since I was a little girl. My love of fashion, dressing sense and eye for incorporating the best of Indo-Western clothing (Indian with a Western Twist) into daily life led me to establish MAAJ in 2000.
What fabrics commonly appear across the collections?
Fabrics used in our collections are mostly 100% silks, cotton/silks, georgette and jersey.
How would you describe the woman who wears Maaj?
Women who wear MAAJ are confident and love to wear unique pieces. They are women who enjoy and appreciate exquisite ensembles especially for the well-travelled/resort/leisure wear market.
I know customers can shop online, do you have any physical stockists as yet?
Yes. We are just starting to get the brand out there into the Miami market, but currently a few boutiques such as MVM carry our pieces along with a few hotels and most notably the Four Seasons.
Where were you based prior to Miami? How did that location influence the designs?
We were based in Hong Kong before coming here to Miami, and over the past few years we’ve built a strong private following over there. Hong Kong is a well-dressed country. So, I’ve tailored my work to the well manicured crowd by using bold, stand out colors and popping hues. My clients have a wonderful appreciation for detail which has influenced the quality and care of each piece.
How is your new move influencing the line?
With the hot temperatures here, I’m inspired to add some shorter pieces to my next collection. Miami is one hot city.
How do you hope Maaj will influence stylish South Floridians?
I haven’t noticed enough luxury resort boutiques offering unique beading and embroidery. I’m hoping to influence the appreciation for fine quality and intricate detailing to my future South Florida clients.
Do you have any exciting upcoming plans to share?
We are looking to open MAAJ boutique some time next year.
