A 63-year-old Macon man was struck and killed by a BMW while standing in a street in Bibb County Thursday night. Now investigators are trying to determine why the man was in the street.
So far, no charges have been filed against the 26-year-old driver who struck Bobby Lewis Wright, and deputies said have not said if the man will face any charges in the incident.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. on Montpelier Avenue near Holt Avenue, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said Wright was standing in the roadway on Montpelier Avenue when he was struck by a 2002 silver BMW 325ci, which was heading west.
The driver, Spencer Alexander Carter, of Macon, was not injured in the incident, the sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Randy Gonzalez said. But Wright was pronounced dead at the scene. It’s unclear if the 63-year-old lived nearby and where he was heading when he was struck.
Montpelier Avenue between Virginia and Duncan avenues was blocked for approximately two hours while Bibb County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Investigators worked the accident scene, Gonzalez said.
Though no charges have been filed yet, deputies said the incident is still under investigation and are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at (478) 751-7500 and ask to leave a message for the on call traffic accident investigator.
