We received a copy of the new book, Reprogram Your Life by Dr. Steven Willey. The subtitle is: Bioscience for a healthier you.
I loved this book. Of course, here at Lifestyle Examiner we are on a fitness kick—but it’s not a temporary thing—it is always ongoing as we look for ways to improve, be healthier, feel better, enhance our capabilities and just achieve a better state of being. Whether we do that with diet, a stepped-up exercise program, meditation, sleep patterns, or lifestyle changes; that is the goal. And the goal is not an end but a continuation of the aforementioned things.
The first thing you notice as you read Reprogram is that everything is commonsense. When spelled out in very simplistic terms, it makes good sense that is hard to dispute. The second thing is, we may know that Fish Oil is good for us, for example, that it is found in food and as a supplement. What Reprogram Your Life does, is point out the science behind this fact and dispels any notions otherwise; using studies, white papers and examinations over time. (Although it is not written with boring “white paper”-type jargon, but delivered in an easy-to-understand colloquial version—thank goodness or you wouldn’t want to wade through it now, would you?)
Our population is obviously aging at a great rate. When you are young, you never think about those times when your capabilities or health will be compromised. But you should. Still, even if you hadn’t thought one day about taking care of yourself for a “miles away future”—these tips, ideas, and ideals can be taken up at any time. Until you are dead, there is something you can do to—an action or actions—to make your life healthy and more meaningful. This book will help you to do that.
Of course you can skip to page 268 and read through the 27 or so You+ Action Plan points, but the book tells you why these steps are valid. In addition to the actions that you are encouraged to take throughout, there is a supplemental YouPlus platform that can be implemented online or with an app for your smart phone.
The You Plus platform was developed by a network of scientists, physicians, and software engineers led by Dr. Steven Willey, a physician and weight loss expert and author of the book on which the program is based.
This coaching system provides a web-based program for interaction or a smartphone app trigger program that is a series of goals from the perspective of ‘helping you to stay on track’. If you sign-up you are also privy to diet plans and recipes, fitness steps and exercises and, well, a kind of a nag: yes, a coach that will ask you how you are doing for the day.
Jump in, take a look. We’re on the road (even though we are in rehab from a fractured hip) and we plan on bumping things up as our ability to function fully again returns.
