Gardeners in the Madison area have ample plant sales to choose from in May. A bonus four frequenting these sales is your dollars help to benefit area plant societies and garden clubs, arboretums and city parks. The gardeners on hand at these events have first hand knowledge of what conditions suit the plants best, can share their enthusiasm about particular genres such as herbal plants, woodland natives, great tasting vegetable varieties and even give advice on how best to cook some ethnic plants you may be unaccustomed to.

Willy Street Park will have its annual spring plant sale on Saturday, May 2, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will be located in the park at the corner of Williamson and Brearly Streets in Madison.
Look for annuals, wildflowers, vegetables, herbs and shrubs for this summer’s garden. The plant sale will be held no matter the weather, rain or shine. This plant sale is a fund-raiser for the Willy Street Park, a private non-profit community park maintained by volunteers. Everyone is welcome!

U. W. Arboretum’s annual plant sale is held every year the Saturday before Mother’s Day. Held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., there is a huge selection of plants suitable for different light and soil conditions. The over 100 varieties and species of plants are not gathered from the wild and include native grasses, sedges, woodland, prairie and savannah species, and shrubs. During the sale experts are on hand to answer questions. Held by the Friends of the Arboretum to benefit the arboretum, all members will receive a discount.

Habitat ReStore is having their annual plant sale at the Habitat ReStore EAST, 4207 Monona Dr, Monona. The hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and include many perennials including hybrid day lilies. Hosta and ferns are also available. If you have plants you wish to donate, or gardening books you wish to share, they will be gratefully accepted. Unless otherwise marked, prices will be a very reasonable $4.00 each or 3/$10.00. A second plant sale will be held in June at ReStore WEST.

Madison Master Gardeners will be having their plant sale on Sunday, May 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Held rain or shine, this event is located at the Dane County/UW Extension Office parking lot at 5201 Fen Oak Drive in Madison. Hundreds of plants will be available, with proceeds benefitting community garden projects with seed purchase and supplies.
