Between the description of symptoms and cures, and the “ask your physician about ….” segments, TV ads provide a litany of bad effects than are often much worse than the symptoms of the target disease. If you are buying over-the-counter or late night TV supplements for losing weight or enhancing sex, you have some additional issues. The manufacturers are using untested, unapproved or banned drugs to get your weight down and keep your member up.
Elizabeth Gough-Gordon, Digital Content Editor of eMPR released an article on April 24, 2015 titled FDA, Manufacturers Battling over use of BMPEA. BMPEA is similar in effects to methamphetamine, and is not a generally recognized as safe (GRAS) food supplement additive. It raises heart rate and blood pressure which can leave a person dead from a heart attack or suffering the aftereffects of a stroke.
From the article, the products that list BMPEA on the product label include:
- Conquer (Fruit Punch Slam and Raspberry Lemonade flavors)
- Core Burner Watermelon powder
- Critical FX
- Fastin Rapid Release
- Lipodrene Extended Release
- Phoenix Extreme Blend
- Sudden Impact
Da Hee Han, PharmaD of the FDA released an article on March 11, 2015 FDA Analysis Reveals More Tainted Weight Loss Pills. The pills that were analyzed include the following products and provide a warning
- Black Mamba Hyperrush
- Lean Body Extreme
- Natural Max Slimming
Black Mamba Hyperrush contains sibutramine that increases blood pressure and heart rate that can lead to heart disease, arrhythmia, or stroke. A second chemical in this “supplement” is unapproved in the US and suspected of being carcinogenic.
Lean Body Extreme is a chemical cocktail. It contains sibutramine and similar compounds for increasing metabolism. The added ingredient is sildenafil, which the main ingredient in Viagra™. There is major risk for elderly men taking nitrates having a heart attack, stroke or an erection that lasts all the way to the morgue.
Natural Max Slimming adds fluoxetine to the sildenafil and sibutramine described above. Fluoxetine has adverse effects that include suicidal thinking, abnormal bleeding and seizures. If flouxetine is combined with aspirin, ibuprofen, antidepressants or other drugs, ventricular arrhythmia or sudden deaths can occur.
There is no safe diet pill for long-term use either as a pharmaceutical drug or as a pseudo-food supplement. The FDA has just approved new diet pills after years of restricting additional drugs. The pharmaceutical weight loss pills have major issues. The food supplement pills are more likely to kill or maim you because they contain more dangerous ingredients, and they don’t have the warning labels that people ignore on the pharmaceutical packaging labeling.
If you want to lose weight and keep it off, there are limited choices. Surgical procedures are drastic, but are necessary in some cases. Surgery only works if you then get on a healthy diet and exercise. The surgical side effects are potentially life threatening, and certainly life style altering.
The combinations of diet, exercise, and stress reduction work to reduce weight and keep it off. Taking a pill may seem like the easiest approach to weight loss, but it may kill you. There is no easy way to lose weight. Accept that and make your first exercise pushing yourself away from the table.
