In the surprise team-up of the summer, Marilyn Manson will be joining Billy Corgan and his new Smashing Pumpkins for The End Times Tour, which will visit the Red Rocks Amphitheater on Monday, July 13.
Mr. Manson just graced Denver with his presence a month and a half ago, playing a nearly sold-out show at the Fillmore and with rave reviews coming in from that tour it’s not surprising that he’s quickly returning to the road to continue promoting new album The Pale Emperor.
His choice of tourmates, however, is a bit surprising. Both Manson and The Smashing Pumpkins could be considered rock icons of the ’90s, and both are touring with mostly new band members under their name. But that’s pretty much where the similarities end – Corgan’s post-grunge existentialism is worlds away from Manson’s goth-tinged nihilism & narcissism, and the overlap in fanbases is tenacious at best. The two reportedly had a decades-long feud that was recently resolved, and it would seem that this tour is the lovechild of their reconciliation.
Still, the July 13 show at Red Rocks promises to be a fierce one. It’s unclear which act will be closing the show, but it’s hard to imagine it will be anyone but Manson bringing in the summer darkness with ragers like Disposable Teens and Sweet Dreams. Corgan is supporting new album Monuments To An Elegy, and fans of the Pumpkins will surely be happy hearing classics like Bullet With Butterfly Wings and 1979 along with newer tracks from Monuments.
Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. on AXS.com, for the reasonably low price of $49.50. Visit marilynmanson.com and thesmashingpumpkins.com for more information.
