Men now express themselves in their own fashionable style. Long gone are the cookie cutter conventional blue suit days of the “Mad Men” era. Now men are taking control and enjoying customized fashion that was once mainly the couture women’s domain. LABEL, a concierge menswear company, is growing upwardly in aiding discerning men in their quest for exclusive custom clothing.
Men of distinction are finding LABEL as they seek out exclusive customized fashion.
LABEL was founded by brothers, President and CFO David and CEO Jeremy Miller in 2013. They hit their target; LABEL has become very quickly a premiere custom clothing brand. Providing exclusive custom men’s clothing to busy professionals, LABEL places emphasis on “convenience, style and value.” As a high-end concierge service, LABEL’s clients consist of Fortune 100 and 500 C-level executives and seasoned professionals across various industries in major markets across the country.
David, the older brother, is the more conventional of the two founders. With a former career in finance working as an investment banking associate and living in New York City, David understood the importance of dressing for success. When searching for custom clothing, David discovered the options for men’s customized fashion to be bleak; he found “the available options lacking in terms of convenience, style and price range.”
The younger brother, Jeremy, is in many ways the opposite of David, with his laid-back approach. Jeremy is a born entrepreneur with a big picture mindset. It is evident when speaking with Jeremy that he is adept at seeing the entire picture. He has his hands in all business aspects in order to keep LABEL growing smoothly. Jeremy has always had an innate eye for fashion, understanding “the need to always dress the part.”
As a style maven myself and one who has designed fashion as well as high-end showrooms, I enjoyed the opportunity to speak with the brother wonder team that founded the beautiful LABEL.
CRW: Fashion week in New York City proves to be a showcase for not only the runway models to be seen but also those viewing. What are the trends you are seeing in menswear during this season’s shows and do you see these trends translating into what LABEL’s fashion conscious clients are ordering?
Jeremy: LABEL services a wide range of individuals, from young professionals to Fortune 500 CEOs. Based on our experience, many young professionals and recent graduates have expressed interest in many of the fashion-forward styles being showcased during Fashion Week. For instance, we have clients that are interested in form-fitting options (e.g., a tapered jacket with flat-front pants accompanied with little-to-no break at the ankle). However, we have business executives that are looking for more traditional options (e.g., pleated pants with a relaxed fit). In addition, it’s not uncommon to see our clients blending aspects of both modern and traditional options. The crucial ingredient to achieving a client’s desired fit is the dialogue with the consultant prior to garment production. Our professional style consultants help our clients choose how tapered they want their garments, whether they prefer a form-fitting “European-cut,” a tailored but more relaxed fit, or something in between.
CRW: What factors do you think are contributing to the luxury menswear market to grow at a pace that is almost double luxury women’s wear?
Jeremy: As some industry analysts have noted, for many years, the luxury menswear industry has been less developed relative to that of women’s wear. However, we’re starting to see a tremendous increase in menswear options, which is reflective of the growth of the menswear industry. Given the increasing demand for luxury menswear options, we have observed a significant increase in the demand for exclusive custom clothing.
David: LABEL has benefited from the growing demand for a high-end clothing and concierge solution. Our company grossed more than $1 million in sales in our first year. We expect to triple our sales and number of clients in 2015. We’re very excited about the future of LABEL, given the favorable industry trends.
CRW: How did you end up teaming to create LABEL? Do you miss your old jobs?
David: I was introduced to the concept to buying custom clothing when I worked in finance. It was clear to me that there was no go-to or leading source for custom men’s clothing. LABEL was conceived as an alternative to the overpriced, generic options seen on the racks today. We circumvent traditional channels, eliminate the middleman and engage with customers directly. This way, we give our clients an opportunity to personalize their look with the highest quality clothing at a price that doesn’t break the bank. We defy industry standards and focus less on generating profits through unnecessary markups and more on building lasting relationships with our clients. We know that the real value for us lies in providing the best possible value to our clients.
Regarding your second question, I had a wonderful experience working at Barclays as an analyst and associate. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with so many talented people. Naturally, it was very difficult to leave my career in finance. However, reflecting back on my experiences, I am so incredibly grateful for having the opportunity to pursue my entrepreneurial aspirations with my brother.
Jeremy: David and I were both achieving success in our respective careers. However, we always had a vision of starting a company at some point. We just needed that great idea. When we found it, LABEL was born.
CRW: Was it a tough decision to leave your jobs in finance and medicine to become custom clothiers?
David: Absolutely. Jeremy and I left very promising careers to start LABEL. However, we both had strong entrepreneurial interests, which motivated us to establish a premier clothing company. Since its inception, we’ve had an unwavering commitment to the success of Label, and for us, failure was never an option.
Jeremy: I agree with David. It’s always challenging when you are about to change career paths.
CRW: What is it like to begin a family business as well as a fashion startup?
Jeremy: It’s a very rewarding experience to partner with a family member to pursue an entrepreneurial ambition. However, being a start-up in the fashion space, we are consistently faced with challenges. David and I come from completely different backgrounds that are unrelated to fashion. Thus, we have to be excellent problem-solvers. As soon as an obstacle arises, we may not know the answer but we’re very resourceful in solving the problem. We’re not afraid to ask questions and to seek feedback from others, whether it is an employee or a close family friend.
David: Jeremy and I have a special bond, which is built upon unconditional trust. This fosters a collaborative environment, which promotes effective communication.
It is also important to note that Jeremy and I are probably more different than we are alike. Our personalities, our way of thinking, and sense of fashion are substantially distinct. Additionally, our contrasting professional backgrounds also illustrate another example of how we differ. These differences underscore what makes Label so special. While we’re very different, Jeremy and I complement each other very well and we share the same vision for Label: to be a luxury, one-stop clothing solution for executives and professionals across all industries.
Fashion now speaks to men as loudly as it speaks to women
Luxury menswear is growing at a pace almost double to women’s, proving that men want to be in high style, seeking out exclusive designers and custom made fashion. In 2013, global sales for luxury menswear totaled $420 billion, and industry forecasts predict this sector will grow to $450 billion by 2016, according to a Bain & Company study.
LABEL seeks to accommodate all of their clients’ busy schedules by allowing for LABEL’s style consultants to meet at clients’ location of choice, such as their home or business, or LABEL’s Madison Avenue showroom. Their client portfolio consists of Fortune 100 and 500 executives, professional athletes and celebrities who enjoy the convenience of LABEL’s premium concierge services.
In 2015, LABEL began offering 3D body scanning technology to enhance the measuring process and provide unparalleled accuracy. “This unprecedented technology will be utilized to supplement the over 40 body measurements that our tailors individually take for every client. We don’t anticipate that the measuring tape will ever be an obsolete tool here at Label.” LABEL’s private collection (high-end custom handmade menswear) is made in New York.
The relatively new LABEL has been growing rapidly in sales. LABEL brought in one million in revenue in its first year with a projection of over three million this year. As a concierge menswear company offering exclusive custom clothing to high-net-worth clientele, LABEL is proving to be the go-to source for couture men’s fashion.
Fashion should be enjoyed by all; never be afraid to dance!
