The PAWdres are a team of orphan pups from Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC). They are named such in honor of the hometown team’s FREE Puppies and Padres Calendars which are being given away this Saturday, April 25th at the 5:40 p.m. game.
The Padres are really hitting it out of the park in order to send orphaned pups sliding into forever homes. For all Padres fans that go to the ballpark this weekend for the Padres and Dodgers home game, they will receive a FREE calendar that will feature the Center’s adoptables.
The pups featured in the calendars have some very big names, like Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, Andrew Cashner and Tyson Ross – just to name a few. All you have to do is adopt one of these orphaned pups so you can play ball all year long!
This spring HWAC adoptables were invited by the San Diego Padres out to Peoria for their very own Spring Training. No, this did not include learning to walk on leashes, but a photo session where Padres players dropped their tough, sportsman-like exteriors to cuddle and coo with the pups. The photographers were able to capture the heartwarming images and compiled them into a calendar giveaway for all fans that attend the April 25th home game vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers.
This is a game you will not want to miss so snag your tickets now in order to get the FREE calendar featuring your favorite animal-loving ball players and Helen Woodward Animal Center adoptable pups. Get your tickets while they are available for both the Friday and Sunday games of the series at padres.com.
Nine months of high profile players, including Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, Andrew Cashner, Tyson Ross, James Shields, Joaquin Benoit, Will Myers, Ian Kennedy, Derek Norris, Team Manager Bud Black, Team Hitting Coach Mark Kotsay and Team Coach Dave Roberts, will be profiled in this calendar along with HWAC adoptables. The calendar is being made possible through the kindness of COX and the San Diego Padres.
To kick things off at the game this weekend, the Center adoptables will be there at the entry gates to greet attendees and to encourage sports fans to pick up their Padres and Puppies Calendars. They will also strongly encourage them to opt to adopt!
Helen Woodward Animal Center will be paying it forward to the Padres by posting the players featured in the calendar on their billboards over the next three months. The billboards will highlight the Center, the Padres and the very special players that are devoted to the rescue.
“This was an amazing experience,” said Helen Woodward Animal Center Social Media Supervisor Marcie Grube. “I was born and raised in San Diego and I’ve been a Padres fan since I was a little girl. Meeting the players in this way gave me a glimpse at what down-to-earth, true animal lovers they are. We see them as these fierce athletes but their hearts are just the same as any of ours when it comes to orphan pets.”
“We are so thankful to the Padres and COX and so touched by this wonderful opportunity to promote orphan pets,” said Helen Woodward Animal Center Vice President of Development Renee Resko. “Saving lives takes teamwork and we can’t think of a better team to help us send these guys home.”
Baseball season is here and will last until October but adopting one of these cuddly canine companions will give you the opportunity to “play ball” all year long.
