You have the chance right now to obtain for your personal collection a piece of Megadeth history. Backstage Auctions has an online auction going on at this very minute, ending on December 7, which enables you to have that opportunity – Megadeth, The Countdown To Extinction Auction Featuring Decades of Historical Tour Memorabelia.
What is incredibly special about this auction is that it is taking place in Houston, and those items listed as extremely heavy, with substantial shipping costs, are within a reasonable pick up range, so you would have NO shipping costs, just a small road trip. A couple of good examples of those heavy items are the Megadeth Dave Mustaine 2006 Gigantour Road Case w/ Bowflex Exercise Machine, currently at $275, and the Megadeth Tour Used SKB Flight Case w/ Cables & Wires , which is filled with approximately 120 lbs. of cables, wires, plugs and even spools, all used on several different tours, with a current high bid of $200.
Even if you are not thinking about making any purchases, it is interesting to at least check out what equipment, etc. is really involved in putting on these national headlining tours. This exclusive online auction offers 234 lots containing everything imaginable that has anything to do with Megadeth, including used guitar strings, set lists, clothing worn on stage by the band, tour merchandise, stage banners, road cases, guitars, amps, and other musical equipment.
The current bids on guitars belonging to Dave Mustaine range from $876 to $10,000. The most expensive is a limited edition Dean guitar titled “Blood Lust”. His guitar cases start at $250.
The gigantic stage banners actually used on tours are up for sale. One amazing lot offered conatins six huge stage Rust In Peace banners which were actually used in concerts in over 20 countries. The largest wide screened cloth backdrop is 23’9″ high by 38’8″ wide. Also in this package are pairs of 7′ x 14′ and 7′ x 16′ wide mesh stage scrims, and the 3′ x 11′ drum skirt used on the 20th Anniversary Rust In Peace Tour.
One very unusual up for bidding item is Dave Mustaine’s personal hand crafted customized wardrobe case used during the Gigantour in 2006. It is 71″ high, 48 1/4″ wide, and 24 1/4″ deep, weighing 337 pounds empty. The case has three deluxe 7 1/2″ by 3 1/2″ black and silver colored Dave Mustaine name plates on it, each with his embossed “autograph” on them. The left side is one large temperature controlled compartment with two notched bars for hanging clothing or other items. The right side is sectioned into one 20″ x 20″ lockable compartment (no key provided) with a mirror on the inside of the door. Beneath that are four sliding drawers. Photos of the wardrobe case can be seen in the slideshow for this article. The bidding for this item starts at $300.
