In Minneapolis, a lone car hit protestors when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. Witnesses claim that the car — which was caught on video — had its horn blaring when it suddenly slammed into the crowd of people, running one woman down and trapping her beneath a tire. WTVR News discusses the harrowing scene this November 26, 2014, adding that many of the peaceful protestors immediately rushed to help the victim.
As featured in the above raw video, a frightening Minneapolis car protestors incident took place this Tuesday evening while a crowd of people were having a nonviolent demonstration in the streets. A vehicle suddenly began to honk its horn when it drove right into the group, hitting several people and seriously injuring at least one woman. The throng was assembled outside the Minneapolis Police Department in protests of the no indictment verdict recently given to Darren Wilson following the Ferguson shooting.
Spectators can be clearly seen scattering as the lone car slams through the Minneapolis protestors. Moments later, viewers witness a number of people rush to retrieve the driver from the vehicle while another group of people try to help the woman who was trapped beneath one of its wheels. Circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation.
In their video coverage of the “Minneapolis car protester” crash, NZ Herald News notes that police authorities were said to have quickly arrived on the scene and brought the driver in for questioning. Dozens of demonstrates were later reported to have circled in a ring around the injured woman, waiting until paramedics made it to the street to provide emergency medical attention.
After the female victim was hit, several of the demonstrators jumped onto the vehicle’s hood in an attempt to stop it. The car was described by bystanders as a station wagon of a dark teal color. It remains unknown whether the incident was a total accident or if the driver was honking to be let through the intersection and then lost control of the vehicle. The woman was taken into an ambulance after her leg was trapped underneath the car for a time. Many people took to Twitter to share news of the harrowing Minneapolis car crash into the crowd of protestors. She only suffered minor injuries, however.
This and similar protests have emerged across the country regarding the Ferguson shooting of black teen, 18-year-old Michael Brown, by white police officer Darren Wilson. Some campaigners are said to have written on signs and their bodies: “Black lives matter.” The protests are spanning everywhere from Minneapolis and Missouri to Chicago and the White House. The latest rumors involve the hacker group Anonymous claiming that Wilson was in league with the KKK, and they even say there is proof of it. As one protestor proclaimed:
“I think what happened yesterday is a great injustice to everyone that’s been fighting for equality in this country,” the Chicago man offered in a statement. “And I think that just because a bad decision was made doesn’t mean people who believe in equality are going to fall silent.”
