The Lilly Pulitzer event at Target stores online and across the country last Sunday left many fashionable shoppers empty handed when the entire collection sold out within hours. Typical of these collaborations between luxury brands and the off-the-rack retail chain stores that enable them, shoppers lined up before dawn in front of brick and mortar stores and their laptops to score pieces from the Palm Beach friendly collection. Many of those items were available later in the day, at inflated prices, on eBay.
New Yorkers who took a pass on the hype and buzz, much of it created by a commercial that was a pastel colored explosion of celebrity infused partying at a huge tropic themed fantasy mansion scored by K.C. and the Sunshine Band, have a chance to experience a unique shopping experience taking place downtown this weekend. Depop, the shopping app that has been likened to Instagram meets eBay, will host its first official U.S. event this Saturday, April 25th from 12PM – 5PM at ROOT Studios in Chelsea.
Depop is a worldwide social marketplace with over 2 million+ users where bloggers, brands, designers, stylists, photographers, artists, vintage collectors, and anyone else with a smartphone can sell and buy clothes, art, music and anything else you can think of, with the touch of a button.
The Depop Closet Sale will be a “flea market” style event in which notable fashion bloggers like Chiara Ferragni from The Blonde Salad, Aimee Song from Song of Style, Luanna Perez-Garreaud from Le Happy, Lisa Dengler from Just Another Blog, Rachel Lynch from I Hate Blonde, Marcel Floruss from One Dapper Street, Amy Marietta, Retro Flame, Miss Alissa and a few others will do some spring cleaning and sell clothes straight from their closet. To give something back, everyone participating will be donating 10% of their sales and some of the clothes that don’t sell to the The Housing Works Organization. Depop will also have Animal Haven raising funds from 1-3PM with a puppy and a photo booth…because, who doesn’t love puppies?
Those who can’t attend won’t miss out on all of the fun. Through Depop, anyone from around the world will be able to shop the closet of bloggers like The Blonde Salad, Song of Style, Man Repeller, Le Happy, Peace Love Shea, I Am Galla, Pursen Boots, Andy Heart, Nalieli, Cutie Pie Marzia, Joanna Kuchta as well as fashion personalities like Dita Von Teese, Louise Roe, Preston Konrad, Haley Stark, Taylor LaShae, Melanie Martinez and hundreds more—straight from their phones.
ROOT Studios is available 24/7 with full support on still & motion photo shoots and events in the fashion, entertainment and art industries, with locations in Chelsea and Williamsburg. Both studios include unique, beautifully furnished studio spaces with oversized cyc walls, 24-hour full-service equipment rooms and digital capture and motion services. Housing Works is a healing community of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. The organization’s mission is to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain their efforts. Animal Haven is a nonprofit organization that finds homes for abandoned cats and dogs throughout the Tri-State area, and provides behavior intervention when needed to improve chances of adoption. Founded in 1967, they operate an animal shelter in Manhattan. The organization also provides programs that enhance the bond between animals and people.
