A one-year-old bully breed dog named Theia miraculously dug her way out of her grave late last month in Pullman, Washington after having been hit by a car, whacked over the head and then buried, reports khq.com.
Theia recently appeared filthy dirty, limping and emaciated at a farm in Moses Lake; she is being treated at Washington State University Teaching Hospital.
Now if you’re asking how this all came about, you see Theia had been a familiar stray dog in the area; everyone knew her, although she had no home. Neighbors and friends would feed her scraps; Theia had a tail wag for everyone. Just a month ago, Theia was hit by a car. In what is thought to have been a mercy killing, an area farmer struck her over the head to relieve her of her assumed pain and buried her in the field.
Four days later, Theia dug herself out of her grave. On February 24, Sara Mellado and her family became Theia’s future, but the dog is still in need of advanced medical care.
“Considering everything that she’s been through, she’s incredibly gentle. She’s a true miracle dog, and she deserves a good life,” stated Sara.
Theia was originally diagnosed with a dislocated jaw, leg injuries and a caved in sinus cavity – the result of being bashed over the head with a hammer. The dog’s other problem occurs when she tries to sleep:
“To fix this problem she will need a stint inserted into her head to keep the passage open and a lot of the damaged tissue to be removed. The stint itself is $3,000 aside from the procedure itself. Can potentially cost up to $9,000 and possibly even more depending on recovery and success of the procedure,” states Sara on Theia’s GoFundMe page.
What is so frustrating to Sara is if Theia was just taken to a shelter after she was found hit by a car, a veterinarian could have cared for her injuries, and the dog would be 100%.

Get well soon Theia. She really is a miracle pooch.
