Inside of a week, Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena will have played host to the launch of Kenny Chesney’s 2015 Big Revival Tour, Bob Seger, Nickleback, two Predators matchups, and a Wine Festival & Tasting. King Jewelers presents the tasting experience on Thursday, April 2 at the Arena from 6-10 p.m. Guests can choose from over 200 wines at the 10th annual event to benefit the Nashville Predators Foundation.
The Predators originally teamed up with Levy Restaurants, the exclusive caterer to Bridgestone Arena’s Luxury Suites, meeting room facilities and Patron Platinum Club, and Lipman Brothers, a wine and spirits distributor in Middle Tennessee, to start the event in 2006. The festival has grown over its ten years from this small partnership. “We have brought on additional distributors to increase the number of wines poured at the event,” explains Rebecca King, Nashville Predators Senior Director of Community Relations. Ajax Turner, Alekseys Imports, Athens Distributing, Best Brands, Horizon Wine & Spirits, and Omni Beverages join the ranks of those distributors this year.
In addition to the smorgasbord of wines available, craft beer and spirits also take the ice. More than 35 spirits, including local favorites Beechtree Distillery, Corsair Artisan Distillery and Nelson’s Green Brier Distillery, are featured alongside a handful of beers. King says, “over the past few years the liquor presence has increased to make it a corner of the event. With so many local distilleries and flavored liquors, the area has really become a big hit.” The evening is rounded out with over a dozen local restaurants providing solid tasting options.
As an additional opportunity to support the Predators Foundation, guests have the chance to bid on items such as vineyard vacations, private tastings, Predators memorabilia and more through both live and silent auctions. Those wishing to support the Foundation either from the event or from the comfort of home can view and bid on auction items by texting “WINEFEST15” to 521-82. The Foundation has awarded more than $4 million to the greater Nashville community, nearly $900,000 in cash to community organizations during the 2013-14 season alone. Rebecca King elaborates on just one of these recipients,
One of the Predators Foundation’s efforts is the 365 Pediatric Cancer Fund presented by Dollar General, established in 2010. The Preds raise money annually for the Fund through special events like the Wine Festival, Hockey Fights Cancer games, silent and blind auctions, mystery pucks, fan donations and more. In June 2013, more than $130,000 was given to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. Through the fund, the Nashville Predators have made donations totaling more than $800,000 for the hospital and its programs over the past five years.
Three ticket options are available for the event. General Admission tickets are $75 in advance or $100 at the door and include a Riedel tasting glass. The $200 VIP ticket includes a five-course dinner hosted by Willamette Valley Vineyards prior to the grand tasting. Designated driver tickets are offered at $25.
