The upcoming “Pulse: Late Night at the New World Symphony” keeps evolving and will add a feature that will see some of the audience’s faces turned into monumental works of art when the event returns later this month.
Pulse, an event during which the New World Center is transformed into a huge, dazzling late-night lounge, will take place Friday, Nov. 14.
The innovative evening features alternating performances of classical music with DJ-spun sets. The program will feature soprano Julia Bullock and electric guitarist D.J. Sparr, along with DJ Panic Bomber, and the New World Symphony Fellows.
Bullock, the winner of the 2014 Naumburg International Vocal Competition, has performed the title role in Massenet’s “Cendrillon” with the Juilliard Opera, She has also toured South America as Pamina in Peter Brook’s award-winning “A Magic Flute”; and toured China, singing with the Bard Music Festival Orchestra. Other opera roles include Susanna in “Le Nozze di Figaro,” Monica in “The Medium,” and the title role in “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges.”
D.J. Sparr has performed with the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini, Eastman’s “Musica Nova” Contemporary Music Ensemble, pop bands, and as a studio musician. He premiered Michael Daugherty’s electric guitar concerto with the Alabama Symphony, and he was the classical guitar soloist for his own “Guitar Folio” with the University of Michigan Chamber Orchestra and recently performed Steve Reich’s Electric Counterpoint to a packed house of over two-thousand at the Smithsonian Institution Hirshhorn Museum’s “After Hours.”
Brooklyn-based Panic Bomber was recently named one of the five Miami DJs changing the game by Ocean Drive magazine. He will spin electronic grooves throughout the night, performing with and between classical music sets by New World Symphony Fellows.
In addition, there will be a partnership with Sktchy, an art app. Attendees who download the Sktchy app in advance and submit a photo with a customized hashtag to have a chance to be drawn by one of the artists in their global artist community. Select drawings will then be projected inside and outside the New World Center during the event.
Also part of this creative collaboration, there will be two artists on-site live drawing Pulse attendees from 8:30 – 11 p.m. and a Sktchy drawing station open to everyone at the event. To download the app click here.
