“You can be gorgeous at thirty, charming at forty, and irresistible for the rest of your life.” Coco Chanel
“Your skin is the fingerprint of what is going on inside your body, and all skin conditions, from psoriasis to acne to aging, are the manifestations of your body’s internal needs, including its nutritional needs.” Dr. Georgiana Donadio, founder of the National Institute of Whole Health
It seems that there is a month, week, or a day, for something special. Well, November is not only the month of Thanksgiving, it is also ‘National Healthy Skin Month’. Recognition of healthy skin in November was started by The American Academy of Dermatology.
Healthy skin starts from within. That’s right, what you put in your mouth, well, shines through. A diet rich in protein, such as lean meats, and of course, the protein packed peanut, are great for your skin. Your B-Vitamins, and foods rich in Omega-3’s, such as fish and seafood, also add to that healthy glow. Fruits and vegetables are important, as well. So, you don’t like eating your veggies? Drink down a glass of V-8 every day. One 8-ounce glass has two servings of your daily needs!
Obviously, sunscreen is important, as well. You may think that the summer months are the only time that you need to be concerned about the sun. That is such a misconception. Even though the sun’s rays are stronger in the summer, they can still be damaging in the fall and winter seasons. Even on a cloudy day! Though you might not need a heavy sunscreen during the winter months, applying a moisturizer with an SPF is beneficial.
On another note, as far as healthy skin, a healthy appearance, is important as well. You may feel young at heart, and so youthful inside. Let’s talk about the sun bathing, beach babes, from the 60’s through 80’s. Aging skin needs so much more attention. Sometimes, we think about it way too late. Get yourself a dermatologist/cosmetologist. Unbelievable, unbelievable what they can accomplish.
Yes, someone in their twenties will tell you that they would never go there. Huh, well, they’re not in their late forties or older, are they? They didn’t live in the era where laying out on the rooftop, on a foil blanket, covered with baby oil, was the thing to do!
A good dermatologist/cosmetologist will set you up on a skin regimen to start reversing those aging signs. Other things to consider, Botox and fillers. Botox relaxes the facial muscles in the forehead and crow’s feet, reducing the lines caused by facial expressions. Then you have the fillers, such as Restylane, Radiesse, and Juvederm. These fillers are so advanced now, that once injected, your skin continues to build collagen over time.
You live in your skin. Do your best to protect what you live in, and make the most of it. The most important thing of all..love who, and where you are in life. Love yourself, and smile, smile, smile! Remember, that when you except the fact that you are so beautiful on the inside, your beauty will shine through for all others to see.
