Here is a list of the odds for NBA teams in the playoffs to win the NBA Championship in 2015. As you will see, the oddsmakers really believe only three teams can win the title this season. As a big NBA fan, I would be surprised if the top two teams listed below do not end up battling it out for the NBA title this season.
Odds for playoff teams to win the NBA Championship in 2015
T-1. Golden State Warriors – 11 to 5 odds
The Golden State Warriors easily had the best record in the NBA in 2015 at 67-15 and the Warriors are co-favored to win the NBA Championship at 11 to 5 odds. The 67 wins in the regular season are tied for sixth most in NBA history.
Nine teams in NBA history have won 67 or more games in a season and seven of those teams went on to win the NBA Championship. If the Golden State Warriors do not win the NBA Championship this year it will be a bitter disappointment for their fans.
T-1. Cleveland Cavaliers – 11 to 5
With LeBron James back in the fold, the Cleveland Cavaliers are tied with the Warriors as favorites to win the NBA title at 11-5 odds. With Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, LeBron is playing with two more legitimate superstars this season and the supporting cast is certainly strong enough for the Cavs to win their first NBA Championship in 2015.
3. San Antonio Spurs – 4 to 1
Personally, I don’t see the defending champion Spurs as a much of a threat to repeat this season. I think they are wildly over-priced at 4 to 1 odds. I would put them in the 10 to 15 to 1 odds range.
T-4. Atlanta Hawks – 15 to 1
The Atlanta Hawks won the most games in the East this season with 60 wins. The fact that they are 15 to 1 odds tells you that Las Vegas does not believe in the Hawks in any real way.
T-4. Chicago Bulls – 15 to 1
To me, the Bulls are a much better bet at 15 to 1 odds than the Hawks are because of Derek Rose.
6. Los Angeles Clippers – 18 to 1
The Clippers odds are this high because they have to play the Spurs in the first round. If they get by the Spurs, the Clippers odds will likely drop a decent amount.
7. Houston Rockets – 25 to 1
James Harden deserves the MVP award for the regular season in this author’s eyes as the Rockets are nothing without him. If the Rockets are to win the NBA Championship in 2015 Harden would have to play lights out all the way through the playoffs.
8. Memphis Grizzlies – 30 to 1
The Grizzlies are not a bad team but I don’t see them winning it all in 2015.
9. Dallas Mavericks – 50 to 1
Las Vegas does not think much of the Mavs chances in 2015 pegging them at 50 to 1.
T-10. Portland Trail Blazers – 75 to 1
With Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge on the team you would think Portland would have lower odds but Vegas obviously believes that first round opponent Memphis is a better team than Portland this season.
T-10. Toronto Raptors – 75 to 1
The Raptors are too flawed a team to win it all in 2015.
12. Washington Wizards – 85 to 1
Same goes for the Washington Wizards unless John Wall just goes crazy and starts taking over games. He’s fast enough to dominate games but he defers way too much in the Wizards offense.
13. New Orleans Pelicans – 135 to 1
Having to play the Warriors in the first round is discouraging enough that Vegas puts the Pelicans odds at 135 to 1 despite the presence of Anthony Davis.
14. Boston Celtics – 250 to 1
The Celtics had a great season to make the playoffs in 2015 but they are too flawed to win it all in 2015.
T-15. Milwaukee Bucks – 300 to 1
Can Jason Kidd coach in the NBA or what?
T-15. Brooklyn Nets – 300 to 1
Deron Williams has got to be one of the most overpaid players in the history of the NBA. The Nets would be better off just starting Jarrett Jack at point in the playoffs since Williams has been so bad since the team gave him a $100 million contract a few years ago. Deron Williams shot 39.5% from the floor this season and the Nets owe him $21 million next year and $22 million in 2017.
