On Nov. 23, Olympic medalists Missy Franklin, Kara Lynn Joyce, directors Grant A. Barbeito and Christo Brock attended the New York premiere of USA Swimming’s documentary “Touch The Wall” at Landmark Sunshine. This documentary has followed 4-time Olympic Gold Medalist Missy Franklin’s swimming career since she was 14.

Read our red carpet interviews with Missy Franklin and Kara Lynn Joyce:
How did you get involved with this movie?
Missy: Well, Christo and Grant [the directors], they met my father at a business event and he was bragging (as I hate when he does, but I can’t get him to stop), and he started talking to Grant. And Grant was looking for a new proposal and Grant came out and met me and Christo came out and started with me when I was 14, and then they just started filming.
Kara: I moved to Colorado in April of 2011. And I moved there to train with Missy and her coach Todd. And I had no idea that there was a movie in the works. They showed up at practice one day and I asked Missy, “Who are those guys over there with cameras?” And she was a little embarrassed, 15 years old, and she was like, “Um…they’re kind of making a film about me.” I was like “What that’s so cool! Congratulations!” They came over and talked to me, and asked me to be a part of it. And you know, I had no idea what was going to come of it. I thought it would be something that only my mom would watch because no one watches films about swimming. It’s kind of the first of its kind and that’s really exciting.
Wow! So this has actually been happening for a while.
Missy: Three and a half years.
So have you seen the film already?
Missy: I have. This is my third time seeing it.
What do you think of it and what can fans expect from it?
Missy: I love it, I’m so happy with the way it turned out, and how Christo and Grant really brought mine and Kara’s journeys together. I really hope that fans love it, because it’s not just a swimming movie. I think people that aren’t involved with swimming at all can still get a lot from this movie, which is what we really wanted. We wanted it to inspire people and motivate people and we hope it does that.
Kara: I was blown away by the film. I am so proud of it. Our filmmakers did an amazing job, our editors, our everybody. I mean it’s truly and incredible product. I hope people can relate to it, I hope people really enjoy it and can take something from it. I don’t want to ruin anything so people are going to have to wait and see!
The film will be released in theaters on Nov. 28.
