As children, we were all exposed to the classic fairy tales of Hans Christian Anderson and the Brothers Grimm. One common thread in all of these stories was the princess/heroine always had to suffer a few hard knocks before achieving her dreams of love and a home.
Sidney is a 3 year old female Mastiff mix. Her three years of happiness vanished when her owner died and she was brought to the Humane Society of Manatee County in Florida.
Sidney’s whole world was turned upside down. She went from grieving over her beloved owner to being locked in a cage. But this was only the beginning of the suffering and series of hard knocks Sydney was yet to endure.
Sydney was adopted shortly after arriving at the Humane Society. She was thrilled to be in a new home and doted on by her new parents. Imagine how devastated she was when two days later the family dumped her because the family cat did not get along with her.
Imagine how confused this sweet girl must have been. First she went through the trauma of losing her owner and her beloved home and ending up in the shelter. Then overjoyed to have a home again, only to be returned after not even given a fair chance to let the cat get used to her.
And if Sidney hadn’t gone through enough heartbreak already, she was dealt another third emotional blow when the Humane Society decided to adopt Sidney to the uncle of an employee who lived in Jacksonville Beach, Florida, a 4 hour ride from Bradenton, Florida. Now Sidney had never met this family and they never met her so this was a recipe for disaster. Sidney found herself thrust into a house filled with kids and cats. Predictably, Sidney was once again kicked out of a home and shipped back down to the shelter. No one knows what happened in the home in Jacksonville but there is conjecture that this sweet, mellow dog may have been tormented or harassed causing her to snap or become aggressive.
After her return from Jacksonville, she was adopted out again, but again it did not work out due to other animals in the household.
Whatever the case, Sidney is once again back to being confined to a cage, wondering what she has done wrong.
Needless to say, Sidney’s sad little life has turned into a nightmare. She had to endure many heartbreaks in the previous months, and she literally has not had a break ever since her first adoption. Desperate to be someone’s friend, Sidney has shown devotion and affection.
Like all beloved fairy tale princesses, Sidney is beautiful inside and out. She has a gorgeous face and big, soulful eyes.
And like all other classic heroines, Sydney has had a hard life. But this dog doesn’t need a glass slipper to help her find a permanent home nor is she looking for a palace either. She just wants to be someone’s companion animal and be loved for the sweet, special girl that she is.
She will return your love and dedication tenfold by showering you with love and affection, comfort you, ride with you, and walk with you. She just wants to badly to please.
Can someone please step forward and show this girl that there are humans who can be just as dedicated as she is and not let her down again?
Someone who can finally turn her nightmare into a dream come true and take this little girl with the soulful, gentle eyes home, finally.
