Hollywood Producers celebrated Oscars 2015 at a special PGA Oscar Viewing Party of the 87th Academy Awards. To bring you the inside scoop, enjoy our recap of all their Oscar cheers at Planet Dailies for “Birdman”, “Boyhood”, “Whiplash” and more.
Without the producers, there would be no movies. From Harvey Weinstein to Matt Damon to Ben Affleck, they are all members of the Producers Guild of America, and everyone gave special cheers to “Birdman” Producer, Writer and Director Alejandro González Iñárritu, who won “Best Director”, “Best Original Screenplay” and “Best Picture.”
When we interviewed Actor/Producer and Co-Host Vincent De Paul (“House of Cards”) he shared, “I am so happy that the PGA hosts an Oscar party to celebrate the producers and encourage emerging producers to be recruited into our guild. I was so honored to help organize this event with Megan Mascena and her amazing volunteers.” We were also fortunate to meet Megan, who is Vice President at the Producers Guild of America, and Co-Producer on “New Girl” and “Fresh Off The Boat.”
Everyone filled out their Oscar ballots in “festive attire”, and the tables were covered with film strips, red roses, rose petals and Oscars. We also had a choice of fun cocktails made in honor of the nominees, including The Enigma (for “The Imitation Game”), The Bullseye (for “American Sniper”), The Concierge (for “The Grand Budapest Hotel”), The Method Actor (for “Birdman”) and The Whiplash (for “Whiplash”).
Actor and Producer Vincent De Paul later expanded on the vital role of Producers in movies, “There are many different organizations that make up a movie – the directors, the actors, the cinematographer, and one of the most the most important elements is the producers. The producers are in some ways taking a risk at producing content – sometimes the risk pays off, and sometimes it doesn’t – and it is all because of their dedication to get the important stories seen.”
Once Neil Patrick Harris started his Oscar show introduction, the room got very quiet, and everyone compared notes on their ballots. Inbetween awards, Actor Vincent De Paul presented special recognition awards with PGA VP Megan Mascena to producers Beth Dewey, Gregory Carter, Lesley Dyer, Shanon Glaser, Christina Jo Leigh, Brian McLaughlin, Nic Novicki, Jennifer Salazar and Jason Watters.
We also enjoyed seeing Elizabeth Ellen Webster (who brings films to Washington DC), Fashion Designer Sue Wong, entertainment reporter Elizabeth Taylor, Producer Patricia Chica, Producer Don Franken, and Graphic Designer Camille Constantin.
The PGA Awards previously recognized “Birdman” with their Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures. The “Birdman” Producers who made this now Best Picture a reality included Alejandro G. Iñárritu, John Lesher, James W. Skotchdopole. The PGA also recognized Dan Lin, the producer of “The Lego Movie” at their awards ceremony.
Big congratulations to all the 2015 Oscar nominees and winners last night. We also want to thank the PGA for a festive party, and give a special shout out to GregDohertyPhotos for taking the most amazing photos.
