2014 has been quite a year for this examiner; I’ve covered something old, something new, something unique for readers to view. With that being said what a great way to end the year than with a year in review. Let’s take a walk down the proverbial memory lane.
January 2014 bought us information on a new format from the MELT method called MELT on Pilates. Designed by MELT Method creator Sue Hitzman in collaboration with Halle Altman, NY based Pilates and MELT instructor, this cutting edge Pilates technique uses the MELT roller to hydrate connective tissues and prepare the body for the rigors of the class. Following this preparation, Pilates exercises are performed with the specially-designed MELT half roller, which allows participants to better identify and challenge their core musculature. May 2014 focused on the benefits of adding balance training to your Pilates workouts with a Pilates on the Bosu piece. This piece sites that core strength acquired in Pilates is actually enhanced when adding the Bosu to your Pilates training repertoire. August 2014 From time to time I run into some fascinating instructors who have made great strides in their Pilates practices and careers. One such instructor is Salle Huber. Salle is a top shelf Pilates instructor and the Pioneer of introducing the MELT Method and MELT on Pilates to instructors in the Chicagoland area. October 2014 There are quite a few similarities between Pilates and Yoga and with the practices being so similar, fusion classes and studios have doubled over the years. Classes like PiYo can be found in all types of studios and gyms throughout the country and all over Chicago. This month I focused not only on the fusion class PiYo, I also did a feature on Viva Ki Yoga Studio and its founder, Gail Muszynski who’s professional and personal story shows the benefits that Yoga and Pilates can provide not only for physical health but overall health and healing.
