Forecast discussion: High pressure off the Atlantic coastline brought Providence the best day of the year, weather wise. We reached a high temperature of 65 degrees on Sunday, with bright sunshine. Winds did become breezy by the afternoon, but it came from the southeast and south, which is a warm direction. We will keep the good weather for one more day, before we enter a little more unsettled weather pattern for the rest of the week.
However, let’s just bottle this day so we can open it again next February. The weather was picture perfect, and it will continue into Monday. If you heading to Fenway Park for the home opener for the Boston Red Sox, sunny skies are expected, with temperatures in the middle 60’s. We will see increasing clouds by Monday night, as a cold front will push towards the east coast. We will see showers, periods of light rain, and even a thunderstorm into the mid-afternoon, before the rainfall begins to taper off by the early evening. Temperatures will remain in the 60’s into midweek.
A new high pressure system brings back clear skies by late Tuesday night, and will control our weather into Thursday evening. Temperatures will be slightly cooler, as some colder air from Canada slowly moves down into New England. However, we will not see any days with high temperatures in the 40’s. Temperatures will remain in the upper 50’s to lower 60’s through the forecast period.
As we head into the weekend, a weak low pressure system is forecast to form off the coast of North Carolina. This low will have the potential to bring some widely scattered showers by Friday afternoon. A stronger low over the Great Lakes will arrive into Southern New England by Saturday, giving us the risk of some scattered to widespread showers. The low will stall, so we will not be seeing clearing skies until early Sunday morning. We will finish the weekend next Sunday with partly to mostly sunny skies, as a high pressure center moves directly over Southern New England.
