Tomorrow, Thursday, November 27th, between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m., is yet another spectacular occasion for the Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC). Folks will gather for the Family Mile Fun Run at the Del Mar Racetrack which proceeds will go to benefit the HWAC Therapeutic Riding Program.
Besides partaking yourself, you can then witness the adorable adoptable puppies as they host their own “Race for Rescue” event. Is there anything cuter than a puppy running around and being its sweet self? It will just make you want to adopt them all – or at least your favorite one!
This new event will be held at the Del Mar Racetrack to make it an official race. People will gather in the spirit of giving back. Thanksgiving Day is the perfect day to choose such a great activity – and running before eating will allow you to eat even more!
This in the inaugural year for the event which is sure to become a San Diego tradition. Folks will gather on the horse track, getting set to run. They will be joined by Del Mar jockeys that intend to run, jog or walk with the crowds.
After the people-friendly one mile run, it will be time for the Center’s adoptable pups to race. The pups hope to race right into the arms of their forever family that just happens to be waiting at the finish line for them.
Of course, the good folks at Helen Woodward have planned other fun activities, including kid-focused holiday crafts, face painting, Thanksgiving Day hat-making with the Rad Hatter, entertainers galore, besides opportunity drawings and some very special surprises for the entire family to enjoy! There will definitely be something for everyone!
To participate, there is a race entry fee for the Fun Run which is $25 for adult runners age 16 and up, $10 for junior runners age four to 15 and children ages three and younger are free with an adult. There are even discounts that apply for early registration. Parking is free for all!
Every race participant will receive a their racetrack admission, a fun run t-shirt and the sheer happiness of knowing that a portion of the day’s proceeds will go to benefit Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Therapeutic Riding Program. All participants are also encouraged to bring cans or sealed bags of pet food for HWAC’s AniMeals program which provides pet food for the pets of the homebound elderly in the area. There will be a collection bin on site to deposit donations in.
After all of the race day festivities are over at 10:00 PST, feel free to stay for the horse race that is an 11:00 a.m. post. The day is sure to be a perfect day to give before you receive.
