Former radio personality and television host Richard Augustus Wagstaff Clark, Jr., affectionately known as Dick Clark, who was recognized predominately for his annual Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, at Times Square, produced and created the American Music Awards (AMA) in 1973, unbeknownst to many. Unlike the Grammy Awards which are given based on votes by members of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the AMAs are determined by a poll of music buyers and the public. This awards show soon became an integral part of American society and aside from featuring today’s hottest music talent, there is no doubt you will come across throngs of high fashion stars on the red carpet as well.
Of course, an evening out in style at a music awards show is nothing without great performances. Artists who rocked the stage included Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Mary J. Blige, Selena Gomez, Sam Smith, One Direction, Fergie, Garth Brooks, Charli XCX, Imagine Dragons, Jessie J, Lorde, and Pitbull, the host for the night.
