Catherine: “I love all my children. Protecting them, keeping them safe, it is what drives my existence.”
“Terror of the Faithful” is the November 20 episode of “Reign.” Beware, this article contains spoilers. “Reign” returns on December 4 on the CW.
The Vatican has sent a Cardinal to France to help with the going around and asking every French subject to declare their faith. Doesn’t sound so bad, right? It’s not if you block out that the Cardinal is cutting off people’s lips and doing other barbaric things. Needless to say, France is a happy place right now.
After being kidnapped by a Protestant, Prince Conde agrees to arrange a meeting with a Protestant minister and Francis and Mary. Conde thought the meeting was to get permission for the minister to rebuild his protestant church. Yeah, it’s not. The minister threatens to kill Catholics in two days with a bomb if the Cardinal is not kicked out of France.
Lola is out in the forest when Narcisse stops by and decides to be a creep. He is stalking her. There is no other word for it. Narcisse proposes that the two of them meet in secret because then Lola wouldn’t have to feel guilty about being seen with him.
Catherine has decided that Claude will marry the Count of Bavaria son. There’s just one problem: the Count has heard rumors of Claude’s tryst with a priest. He is suspicious as to why Catherine would allow her daughter to marry beneath her status. Catherine’s plan is to get the Vatican to assure Claude’s virtue is still intact.
Lola goes to Francis to inform him that she knows what Narcisse on him. Francis counters her knowledge with the bombshell that Narcisse threatened their child. Cue mother bear instinct! Lola is not happy about this. Now that Francis knows Lola did plant the letter, he aims to follow through with his treason scheme.
Mary and Conde fear that the minister will get die during Francis’ interrogation and become a martyr for the Protestants. This would be all sorts of bad. He isn’t making it easy though. The minster gives Francis a location of the explosive, and it isn’t there. It’s not looking good for him.
Bash goes to speak to Catherine to figure out what her actual endgame is by marrying off Claude. What ends up happening is unexpected. Catherine opens up about the children that she has lost, and how she prays for the safety of all her children. Okay, Catherine being emotional with Bash in the room is definitely new. As Bash is leaving, he sees Catherine tucking in no one. Do you think he has figured out the ghost connection?
Francis goes a little tortured crazy. He has the minister on the stretcher. The minister is shocked that the device wasn’t where he left it, and he begins to suspect that “they” betrayed him. Now, who is this they? Mary has to rush in to urge Francis to stop the torture because the minister still cannot die. It might be too late though.
When Bash and some guards go to search Narcisse’s house, the cipher is no longer there. Well, this is all sorts of bad. Now Narcisse knows that Lola is involved. Sure enough, he creeper stalks his way into Lola’s room, telling her how disappointed he is. He also claims that he never intended to kill Lola’s baby. Okay, sure, whatever you say.
Cue the flashbacks! Apparently, Claude hated the ghost twins back when they were alive and tiny. She hated them and claimed that the twins ruined everything. Turns out, the girls were suffocated. Guess who did it? Princess Claude was a twisted young girl.
You know how Mary feared that the minister would become a martyr? Well, that happened anyways except Protestants killed the minister, and then strung him up in the middle of the square making it look like the crown killed him.
The wedding plans with Bavaria are off. Instead of going to meet her future husband, Claude decides to put on a show and sit on Narcisse’s lap. He is very open to playing with Claude because he has apparently already moved on from Lola.
Mary has lost all faith in Francis. She can’t understand Francis’ motives anymore, and she has no more faith in him. Things aren’t looking good for Frary.
To make matters worse for Frary, there are some touching moments that happen – physical touching. Mary grabs Conde’s arm, and then he places his hands on her. Slowly but surely, things are heating up. Then, Lola tells Francis what a good man he is, and she puts her hand on his shoulder. Let’s not do Lola and Francis again, okay?
