Just who is Peter Pan? He’s a playfully unpredictable boy who can fly and never grows up, Peter Pan spends his on going childhood traveling on throughout the small island of Neverland as the leader of his gang, the Lost Boys, as well as interacting with mermaids, Native Americans Indians,fairies, pirates, and even sometimes ordinary kids from the world outside of Neverland. Peter even has a fearlessly cocky when it comes to putting himself
in danger, against the fierce pirate Captain Hook.
But why you ask hash this old fantacy history all out now? Especially just before Christmas…Well because Peter Pan Live! airs Dec. 4 at 8 p.m. on NBC. For nearly 22 million viewers live as well as 7 re-airings by Christmas everywhere possible. It stars Allison Williams from the “Girls” sitcom in the lead role of the ageless Peter Pan in the musical, Peter Pan Live!.
Also starring are iconic legendary actor Christopher Walken as Captain Hook, whom we find out is quite the dancer in this song and dance musical.This ensemble also includes Kelli O’Hara as Mrs. Darling, Christian Borle as her husband, George oh as well as Mr. Smee, and freshman actress Taylor Louderman as Wendy.
With barely a week till she goes live, Allison Williams still isn’t afraid to confront the musical, Peter Pan Live! Says Allison in an interview,”My instant reaction was,’Of course I’d do this,or am I kidding myself? This is a dream’,”I know that I’m type…A… enough to learn all of these skills, and then forget to be type..A.. in the ultimate performance of them. …everyone will find out what a hard worker I am, they don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this.”
Allison Williams appeared earlier in the week on NBC Today with Sandy Duncan who led a Broadway revival of Peter Pan in 1979 till she injured her head during a performance. And she appeared with former Gold Medal Olypian Cathy Rigby McCoy, who had played the role on and off since 1974, but who now is in her sixties….so much for never getting old.
Now Allison takes the reigns in a new take on the 1954 Broadway production of Peter Pan that starred Tony winner Mary Martin, whom young Allison admitted obsessively watching during her childhood. Speaking of which Allisons been happy to have kids in the audience at the dress rehearsal, because kids are so vocal. Paying close attention early on when Peter Pan says, “Wendy, when you’re sleeping in your silly bed, you could be flying about with me saying funny things to the stars…”
Allison shares; “After the show, it’s a surprise hearing the one thing her child co-stars did say to me, which was something I knew already but was kind of a bummer to hear confirmed, is that this was the highlight of their career. So I felt cool,that yeah I’m 26, that feels like a good time to be on top!”
