Episode 1 Review:
Move over “Broadchurch” there is a new foreign crime show that might be taking your place. Well hopefully everyone takes the chance to watch “Witnesses.” From just watching the first episode, there is already faith that this six part mini-series knows exactly what it’s doing. It’s Marie Dompnier who controls the show and it’s veteran actor Thierry Lhermitte that keeps viewers guessing about his character. Who is the man?
What happens when someone plants dead people in show homes and leave a photo of a retired cop in the house? Sandra Winckler is trying to figure that part out. She doesn’t quit asking the questions and when she finds out that Paul Maisonneuve is coming to town, she has second thoughts. There is something between them. Maybe a little animosity? Paul has a past and so does Marie. That’s what makes the show interesting. You have a crime story and two main characters that are hiding something from us. The episode ended with a bang (literally) too. If all the episodes keep you guessing and with good character development, this might be something!
As of yet it seems that “Witnesses” is giving the viewer a strong female lead. That’s always a plus for cop shows. She might even somewhat remind you of Claire Danes from “Homeland.” Let’s hope that they keep her character in check. So far from the first episode the show is interesting. It has you guessing not just about who is behind the bodies, but is there a killer that wants revenge on Paul? Also there are questions about is Sandra’s husband cheating on her or what’s up with the lipstick? What really happened to Paul and that accident? There are a ton of questions that run through your head while just watching the first episode. That is what makes it good. The episode is not boring at all and anyone who loves a good crime story will enjoy the episode. So go to France for your crime, because this show should have you buzzing at least from the first episode.
For those who like a good mystery that is smart and that gives you chills you should check out “Witnesses” then. It does have that Gothic feel to it too. Like stated before you can watch it on Netflix starting on the first day of May. From the first episode you have a good plot, believable characters that are both strong and damaged enough, and the acting is great. So the first episode gets a five star review. From just watching it, you’ll want to watch the next one right away!
