As wonderful as New York City is, even the most hardcore New Yorker has to escape the concrete jungle for a little r&r. Recently, I visited the Carillon Hotel and Spa in Miami Florida to soothe my mind, body and soul.
The Carillon is more of a wellness center, than it is a hotel. The new beach front resort includes everything you need to relax and get fit. Like daily complimentary classes, lectures, learning workshops, medical consultations, spa services, and a full workout facility. The hotel is located on the very busy Collins Ave., but feels like it’s on a secluded island. It’s the ideal place to stay healthy and motivate the most health conscious.
It Takes 7 Seconds To Make A First Impression
Pulling up to the Carillon Hotel for the first time is pretty impressive. It’s a grand entrance with its large pillars, marble, and mood lighting. Stepping into the lobby will take your breath away. It’s a bit overwhelming, but not in the pretentious way.
There’s no traditional check-in counter here, The Carillon has a more intimate approach with desk and seating for checking in. Tea and water is offered, while the resort is explained. The experience was seamless and made me feel very welcomed.
Suites Are Sweet
Forget about a regular, boring hotel room. At the Carillon, the “suites” are basically condominiums that are larger than the average NYC apartment. The rooms are spacious with a kitchen, living room, separate bedroom, and sprawling bathroom with a garden tub. The kitchens are fully equipped with a dishwasher, stove, microwave, coffee maker, refrigerator and an island with seating. This is amazing feature if you love cooking your own healthy meals or can’t live without your morning smoothie. A Publix grocery store is directly across the street from the hotel, so picking up your favorite foods or wine is quick and easy.
The towels, robes and slippers were incredibly plush and my bed felt like I was sleeping on feathers. The room was quiet with a great view of the beach. The decor of the suite has a warm, serene, spa-like feel. The Carillon doesn’t shy away from details when it comes to decorating, everything from great lighting, art, and mosaic tile give the room a “home away from home” vibe.
Work That Body
The Carillon offers over 45 classes and lectures per day. Starting from 8 AM until 6 or 7 at night, there is always something for guest to do, to stay mentally or physically energized. At least one class a day is family friendly and about 1% of the classes have an additional fee.
Daily lectures include “Tea with the Energy Healer”, “Move your Stuff, Change you Life with Feng Shui”, “Exploring Yoga” and much more. When it comes to classes the Carillon has something for everyone. There’s yoga, bootcamp on the beach, kickboxing and even rock climbing available. The variety is endless.
Their state-of-the-art fitness center has gorgeous beach view, with lots of sunshine, a juice bar and every machine imaginable.
During my stay, I started my day with the early morning “Meditation & Breathing”. The 20 minute session is held in the Ocean Studio and mats, backrest, cushions and blankets are provided.
I’ve only been meditating for about a year, so the class was a bit advance for me, but I was able to clear my mind, relax and induce my consciousness. It was one of the best meditation sessions I’ve ever experienced and it was an amazing way to begin my day.
Burdenko pool exercises is the new “it” workout and Carillon offers it. The aquatic exercises are a serious core builder, helps flexibilty and an overall great workout. I did the class in the rooftop adult pool and I absolutely loved it. It wasn’t easy, but still simple enough for a newcomer like myself. I felt rejuvenated and enjoyed the fluid movements.
Yum, Yum, Gimme Some
Food is fuel and The Carillon understands that. Meals at this wellness resort are healthy, plentiful and tasty. There’s five ways to eat here: The Grill, the Carillon Cafe, Cabana, In-Suite and cooking in your room’s kitchen.
The breakfast buffet at The Grill was small, but had everything one needed to start the day off right. There was an array of fresh fruits, steel-cut oatmeal, scrambled eggs, hand-made chicken sausage, lox, yogurt with all the toppings (including white chocolate kisses), and yummy bagels and breads.
I enjoyed the lox, sausage, fruit with green tea. The buffet area was clean and the food was very good. The family sitting next to me ordered fresh made smoothies and were raving about them. My waiter, Steve, was fast, helpful and friendly. I dined el fresco and enjoyed the hotel’s beautiful landscaping.
Late in the evening, I dined in my room. I ordered a fresh and crisp Chicken Cobb salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The room service waitress, Isabelle was such a pleasure and most importantly she was rapid with delivering my meal.
It isn’t hard to see that I adored my stay. Just north of South Beach, the Carillon Hotel and Spa is a resort to be reckoned with. With a serene setting and upscale service, it truly went beyond my expectations.
At the Carillon, there’s something for everyone, no matter what age or level of physical ability. Fresh food, a clean large suite and a versatile list of workout classes, makes this a great place to relax, rewind and reset.
I didn’t get to spend time in the spa or receive spa services, but the spa offers massages, facials, scrubs and sound therapy. It also has a full salon with makeup applications and hair services.
Whether your stay is for a day or for a week, I suggest the Carillon to anyone looking to escape reality.
