Ben Foster from a young age appeared to be an “Old Soul”. At the age of 12, he won second place in an international competition for a play that he wrote and directed. When he was just a freshman in high school he dropped out to move to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams of being an actor. He was offered the part of Eddie O’Hare in The Door in the Floor (2004), but he thought he was too old for the role and gave it up to his younger brother, Jon Foster. Ben thought it was better suited for him. From an early age it appears that Ben Foster showed that he had the maturity to make decisions of a much older wiser man, so it is not surprising that the woman he choose to engage to, actress Robin Wright was 14 years his senior. The decision to get engaged for Ben, would appear not to have been a hasty one. The fact that Ben acted too” immature” was said to be one of the reasons that Robin Wright ended the engagement. Perhaps Robin Wright realized that she was beginning to feel too old when she was with Ben. This is not in a negative way, but at some point age can affect a relationship when the woman is older than the man especially a woman in her 40’s.
The pressure for many women to maintain a youthful appearance as they age can get exhausting after some time. Having a younger man as a partner, spouse, lover, can be exhilarating, sexy and make a women feel youthful for a period of time. When that period of time does wear off, the opposite affect can begin to set in for a woman with a younger man as her partner. A woman may find herself feeling older around her man and less youthful. She may begin to start to look towards the future and how in 10 more years she may age, as well as the generation gap between the two of them gets bigger. Robin Wright being in her mid 40’s, with children in their early 20’s as well as two prior marriages has experienced those events in her life that Ben Foster has not. The honeymoon phase for Robin perhaps wore off and the reality of what life may be like down the road with this younger man who has not had those experiences may have changed her decision to get married again. Perhaps we can say that Ben Foster may not have been too immature for Robin Wright, but that she became more realistic about her future life with this younger man……………..
This may not be the case for a woman in her 60’s and 70’s but for women in their 40’s and 50’s married to a man that is 10 to 20 years younger can begin to make her feel older than she is….Lets not forget about Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher!
