The Rolling Stones performed the final date of their 14 On Fire Tour on Nov. 22 in Auckland, New Zealand. The legendary British rockers dazzled 36, 577 fans at Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium, completing their 8th and final show of their tour of Australia and New Zealand.
According to a new release posted Nov. 22 at RollingStones.com, the World’s Greatest Rock N’ Roll Band played a 19-song setlist of hits, beloved album tracks and deep cuts, opening the night with “Start Me Up” for only the second time of the tour leg. Usually opening with “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” the last time the band opened with the 1981 Tattoo You hit was on Oct. 29 in Perth, Australia.
The Stones also included a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone.” The song, first covered by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers on their 1995 album Stripped, was narrowly voted as Auckland’s favourite Stones’ song by a margin of 500 votes in an online poll. The song has won the poll three times, including Oct. 22 at the tour leg’s opener in Adelaide, Australia, as well as June 25 in Madrid, Spain
Mick Taylor made a guest appearance on “Midnight Rambler,” as well as on the encore “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” and local guest artists the Auckland members of the New Zealand Youth Choir were recruited to perform with The Stones on “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” See below for the full setlist.
The Stones report they played 8 shows in Australia and New Zealand, traveled over 18,000 miles and 173,838 fans came to see them. The band will now take some down time until February when the band will kick off 2015 with dates in South America, which, guitarist Keith Richards says, includes, “Buenos Aires and Peru. And after that, I know what The Stones tours are like, they tend to get extended.”
