On January 25 Roma Downey has revealed information to her supporters that she and her husband, Mark Burnett, are producing new television programming for 2015 that includes the following: “Unveiled,” “A.D. Beyond the Bible,” and “The Dovekeepers.”
“Unveiled” is a new angel series coming on NBC! “Unveiled” involves a group of flawed guardian angels who intervene in the lives of those who find themselves facing crisis. The angels attempt to restore the faith of those they serve and often save their lives, as well. Roma Downey and Mark Burnett are executive producers through their LightWorkers Media. John Sakmar & Kerry Lenhart are the scriptwriters for the dramatic faith series that NBC has given a pilot order,
Following the success of their limited series “The Bible” for the History Channel, Burnett and Downey are also producing a sequel, A.D. Beyond the Bible for NBC as a 12 episode series scheduled for debut on April 5, 2015. This series cover the events that take place after the crucifixion of Jesus. It follows the conflict revolving around the Christians and the beginning of the church.
At the Television Critics Association (TCA) 2015 Winter Press Tour, Roma Downey said, “Every decision in my life big or small always includes a prayer…There was a lot prayer in casting the series.” Mark Burnett said that he hasn’t received anything but support for A.D. Beyond the Bible and that he and Roma are very excited to see it premiere on Easter weekend. “We are people of deep faith,” Mark said, “and we believe God’s hand is all over it and intended it to be [aired] on Easter Sunday.” Roma reiterated the viewers’ desire for this type of spiritually uplifting, inspiring, faith-friendly programming. “We just know there’s a hunger for this type of material,” she said. “People are hungry for hope.”
Further, Downey and Burnett are producing the miniseries “The Dovekeepers” for CBS for 2015.This project is based on Alice Hoffman’s historical novel and centers on the siege of Masada. Hoffman’s best-seller focuses on four women whose lives intersect as they fight for survival at the siege of Masada. The story that is set in ancient Israel is based on true events at Masada in 70 C.E. Forced from their homes in Jerusalem by the Romans, 900 Jews have gathered in a fortress on the mountain of Masada in the Judean desert. As they have been besieged there, the Jews have held out for months against the vast Roman armies. The miniseries will follow events from the perspective of four women who arrive at Masada independently and who have unique backstories, but who have a common bond for survival. CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler has said, “We’re thrilled to be working with Roma Downey and Mark Burnett to bring Alice Hoffman’s epic saga to life. Mark and Roma possess an amazing passion for telling biblical stories and for producing entertaining television on an event scale.”
Furthermore, in interviews and information from Movieguide associates, it has been revealed that Burnett and Downey’s movie, “The Son of God” has been nominated for its Best Family Movie of 2014 award at its February 6, 2015 awards gala.
