The trailer for the much anticipated Roma Downey-Mark Burnett movie A.D. was released today, Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, 2014 and is now available for viewing, according to an article in today’s Christian Post. The movie itself will be released Easter Sunday, 2015 and depict the supernatural rising of Jesus Christ from the dead and the perilous times in which his followers spread the gospel after he ascends into heaven.
The movie recreates the most amazing and significant event in the history of the world…..the rise of Jesus Christ from the dead. His disciples Peter, James and John and others including Mary Magdalene and Jesus’ mother Mary are all strengthened in their faith when they see Jesus has actually risen from the dead. Even Doubting Thomas loses his doubts when he places his fingers in the nail-scarred hand of Jesus.
Even if anyone at the time did have doubts they were probably abolished when Jesus re-materialized in front of them after dying on the Roman cross. Today’s trailer includes the depiction of an informant advising an official at the end of the clip that “the Nazarene’s tomb has been opened and Jesus is gone.” One can imagine how shaken and shocked the leader must’ve been to realize they’d murdered the Messiah. Not a good thing to have on one’s resume.
Argentinean actor Juan Pablo di Pace, who starred in Mama Mia, plays Jesus Christ in this miniseries which will appear on NBC. Its prequel “The Bible” smashed all sorts of records for the History Channel.
In this movie concerning the most important events in the history of the world, Peter struggles with Jesus painful crucifixion and then later fears prosecution from the Romans after Jesus ascends into heaven. One can imagine how uneasy Peter must have felt when his supernatural leader who had been his mentor is no longer there to guide and teach him.
Part of the amazing nature of the story is Jesus spent most of his time on earth teaching only the twelve disciples who then influened approximately 70 apostles who then spread across the first centruy landscape leading thousands and ultimately millions to Christianity. Their incredible faith in this one man who was sent from God to bring His personal message of love to people on earth is a story that turned the world upside down.
There have been other amazing stories throughout history such as the British surrendering at Yorktown in 1776 to the American colonialists to end the American Revolutionary War. Cornwallis band even played the song “The World Turned Upside Down” at the time.
However, that event resulted only in the independence of a nation. The story of Jesus return to life resulted in eternal life for everyone who wants it as they face eternity as explained in John 3:16.
