Arrival Experience: The busy Chicago Midway airport is not as central to downtown Chicago as many think, which is why there are so many airport-focused hotels in the vicinity. A fantastic shuttle bus makes runs between most of the hotel area properties with regularity stopping every 20 minutes by the baggage claim exit. Guests of the Hilton Garden Inn, a property owned by talented hotel management group White Lodging, will find an excellent value at their fingertips. Once at the front door, the friendly staff provides complimentary bottled water with a smile as guests complete the check-in process. The double elevators arrive swiftly to take guests away to their rooms, but for those that choose to linger in the lobby there are various seating areas including a conference table and TV corner.
Dining: To the left of reception is the main dining area, which offers a lively breakfast spread each morning that begins with a fresh fruit buffet. Cooked-to-order breakfast omelets or waffles are a popular addition. While not included in the rates, they are exceptionally affordable with attentive service that outdoes what could be found in central Chicago. Despite much of the offering being served buffet-style, the always-smiling service staff circles around with coffee and hot breakfast items. A dinner menu and bar menu are great for those that want to grab something to eat after work. Large windows in the dining room, a fireplace, and a complimentary, all-day coffee and tea station encourage guests to spend more time in the lobby area.
Rooms: These guest rooms are some of the best by Midway’s runways. Here, you will find goodies like free wireless Internet access, Keurig coffee machines, flat-screen cable TVs, Neutrogena toiletries, and bedside power outlets that are ideal for keeping a mobile phone juiced up. Additional power ports by the desks and adjustable, ergonomic chairs are wonderful for road warriors. Many rooms have views of Midway’s runways, but the higher floor the better. Bathrooms feature plentiful towels, curved shower rods, and ample vanity space. It is nice to know there is an open refrigerator for those that want to keep leftover food for a midnight snack.
Amenities: An indoor swimming pool and whirlpool are great additions to the hotel given Chicago’s alternating weather. A fitness center keeps guests in shape while ample meeting space for small groups includes a lengthy conference table opposite reception that is surrounded by natural light and great for informal gatherings. Free parking surrounds the hotel for overnight guests, and the airport shuttle runs on a prudent schedule. With free bottled water offered at check-in and check-out plus coffee or tea from a round-the-clock station, this hotel takes care of travelers no matter what the hour.
