Arrival Experience: The nonstop, free airport shuttle runs at all hours to the airport-centric Radisson Portland Airport hotel. Once in the quaint lobby, the staff is eager to point the way to the guest rooms, via one of several elevators spread across the building. Conversation seating areas provide a nice touch, but the best feature is the complimentary gourmet coffee machine to the side of reception. Airport departure boards provide updated information to guests before they head to the terminal. If taking the shuttle back to the airport, be sure to arrange a shuttle reservation with the front desk, as free vouchers are required.
Dining: Lakeside Bar and Grill handles all meals beginning with a notable breakfast buffet that includes scrambled eggs, egg white frittatas, Belgian waffles, fresh fruit, Greek yogurt, and the offer to tack on anything else that is desired by the friendly servers. Views of the adjacent namesake lake are why most guests opt to dine here. Another gourmet coffee machine is on the buffet, but large carafes are available for caffeine-fueled diners. Lunch and dinner are also served here, and a lively bar is the best option for those that prefer not to venture into town. Portland is known for its exceptional craft brewery and local wine scene, and many of these options are on tap here.
Rooms: While not the most modern by the airport, they may be some of the most comfortable. Radisson was a pioneer of soft mattresses and thick duvets, which help to encourage a sound slumber. An added bonus from management is the thoughtful addition of ear plugs since the hotel is by the airport’s runways and nearby train tracks. Surely appreciated, they seemed hardly needed in many rooms in the center of the building. Other modern benefits include flat-screen cable TVs, free wireless high speed Internet, iPod docking stations, spacious desks with easy-access power ports and rolling desk chairs, and strong air conditioning. Bathrooms are equipped with hair dryers, Rituals Spa toiletries, and shower-tub combinations with curved shower rods for extra space. Suites, located at the end of the building, provide refrigerators, microwaves, and large living rooms with sofa beds.
Amenities: A ground-floor fitness center is popular with exercise buffs while meeting space bears aviation-focused names suitable for small groups. Free parking and business center with printer are additional bonuses. This hotel offers more affordable prices than the runway-paralleled Sheraton and is popular with frequent business travelers that prefer easy in-and-out access to the airport and city.
