On his Wednesday program, conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh responded to news of President Obama’s executive amnesty by telling the country that despite what he said earlier this year, Obama really believes he’s an emperor with power to issue royal edicts. Moreover, Limbaugh said, Obama intends to prove to America that he’s an emperor when he announces his amnesty on Thursday.
During a Google Hangout that took place in February, Obama was asked about the deportations taking place under his administration. Obama responded by saying he’s not an “emperor.”
“The problem is that I’m the president of the United States, I’m not the emperor of the United States,” he said at the time. “My job is to execute laws that are passed.”
Unless, of course, he doesn’t support the laws in question, like the Defense of Marriage Act, which he unilaterally decided was unconstitutional and not to be enforced by the Justice Department. Last July, he bypassed Congress on welfare reform and effectively rewrote the law with a policy directive. Now, he is set to grant a form of amnesty to as many as five million illegal immigrants because he doesn’t think Congress has acted in a timely manner.
Limbaugh went on to say that Obama has told a number of people he’s not a dictator or an emperor. But, he added, Obama “was just buying time.”
“For those of you who think that, ‘Hey, this is a gotcha! We can show Obama lied. Get that audio where Obama said he’s not a dictator. Now he’s doing it. He lied!’ That isn’t gonna change anything,” Limbaugh said. “Obama knows everything he’s doing. He knows who he lies to, he knows why he lies, and he knows he’s going to get away with it. He knows he’s not gonna be called on it.”
This time, however, it seems Obama doesn’t really care if he’s called on it. On Wednesday, the White House said Obama wears the criticism as a “badge of honor,” the Washington Times reported.
“We’ve heard this kind of rhetoric about lawlessness from the House Republicans for some time,” White House Press Secretary Earnest said. “The president is somebody who’s willing to examine the law, review the law and use every element of that law to make progress for the American people. And if that is something that Republicans are critical of, that’s, you know, maybe a criticism that the president wears with a badge of honor.”
But, Limbaugh added, “the point is much larger than Obama is a hypocrite. He is exactly what he claims that he is not.” Worse yet, he knows America is not ready for a dictator.
“That’s why he’s gotta lie,” Limbaugh said. “That’s why he’s gotta claim, ‘Oh, Reagan did it,’ as though that clears the decks. That gives him permission to do whatever he wants to do, because Reagan was beloved. Reagan was respected. Reagan did have integrity.”
Limbaugh wasn’t finished, saying that Obama “knows he’s violating the Constitution.” Making matters worse, Limbaugh said, Obama is “happy to do it, by the way.”
