The Ultra Fit USB 3.0 Flash Drive from SanDisk is a low profile marvel that is so small you will almost forget it’s in the USB port. This is particularly convenient for use with notebooks that are transported in briefcases and backpacks. There’s no need to remove the Ultra Fit before stashing the computer in its travel case. The flash drive protrudes less than half an inch from the USB port and can travel quite happily and safely in the computer. It’s the perfect on-the-go companion for your storage needs. It’s out of the way but there when you need it.
The SanDisk Ultra Fit USB 3.0 Flash Drive is available in 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB capacities and is covered by a 5 year limited warranty. I was provided with the 64 GB model for my review. It’s still a bit amazing to me that something so tiny can hold 64 GB of data. The USB 3.0 data transfer speed of up to 130 MB/s is as much as 10 times faster than the transfer rate of a similar USB 2.0 drive. That speed means less time waiting for files move from one place to another. The product specifications say that you can transfer a full length movie in less than 40 seconds. Obviously, full length movies come in many different sizes and not knowing what size they tested, made it impossible to reproduce that 40 second result. The transfer speeds are nonetheless impressive even for much larger movie files that can’t achieve that 40 second goal.
The Ultra Fit Drive comes with SanDisk’s SecureAccess Software already on the drive waiting for you to install it on your computer. The SecureAccess program creates a password-protected folder on the Ultra Fit flash drive. It protects your private files with 128-bit AES encryption allowing you to share the contents of your flash drive without compromising your private files.
SecureAccess v2.0 features
- Quicker start-up
- Improved password settings
- Ability to edit your documents stored in vault
- Encrypted Backup and Restore data stored in vault
- Optional File Shredder (deletion) from source after transfer to vault
- Automatic logout time-out setting
SanDisk RescuePro software is not free but is available in a trial version that you can try before you buy. It is designed to recover lost, corrupted, or deleted files from all types of digital media including flash drives. It comes in Standard and Deluxe versions that are priced accordingly. Visit SanDisk online to find out more about RescuePro. In tiny print on the back of the package, it says ‘Includes RescuePro Deluxe 1 year software download offer’ but I could find no details about actually getting the free offer. I suggest trying the trial version and then contact support and ask them for a registration code for the 1 year subscription.
