Today, another report from FOX5 ‘Church of Scientology seeking to open drug rehab facility in Frederick County’ – “Neighbors in a Maryland community are saying “not in my backyard” to a proposed drug treatment facility. The Church of Scientology wants to use a historic lodge in Thurmont as a place to cure people with addictions.”
A Scientology entity, ‘Social Betterment Properties International’ has purchased the property in Trout Run, Maryland for $4.85 million from a limited liability company run by Howard E. Haugerud. Many say this is the first step to opening a controversial and dangerous Narconon center by “going through the back door” by having the property designated as historic.
On April 20, 2015, the Washington Post reported, ‘Scientology-backed drug rehab triggers a furor near Camp David’ and during an appeal hearing to have the property designated as ‘historic’ council member Jerry Donald grew agitated as the justifications were explained by Denis Superczynski, a county planner.
“What’s so historic about a place where a guy fishes?” asked Donald, a social studies teacher who teaches a class called “Philosophy of Knowledge” said they aren’t trying to save it for history, they’re trying to change it so they can do something with it.
As one citizen stated: “They have more money than God” – and can do whatever they want if approved. Indeed,‘Social Betterment Properties International’ has tens of millions backed by Scientology’s billion dollar war chest.
Facing strong opposition to Scientology’s drug treatment facility and any changes to the property, Frederick County’s council on Tuesday postponed a vote to give Scientology a historic designation for the site.
“Narconon is a secular program that uses the technology of L. Ron Hubbard to help people get off drugs,” said Sylvia Stanard, deputy director for the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office.
This statement by Sylvia Stanard that “Narconon is a secular program” has been refuted under oath during a deposition and even by Standards’ own Scientology associates, ‘Narconon director of Legal Affairs’ that stated “Scientology is taught at Narconon” and uses L. Ron Hubbard’s written policies and books. On numerous occasions, it has been proven without a doubt, that Narconon is not a secular program and uses the so-called religious teachings of Scientology.
Some media reports state that “Narconon is alleged to be “connected to Scientology” – when in absolute fact, Narconon is a Scientology entity under an agreement with the IRS, Narconon’s program is 100% Scientology religious doctrine, policies, and is administered and directed by Scientology’s Office of Special Affairs and Scientology’s elite Sea Org.
When Frederick County was contacted yesterday by the Examiner, the spokesperson says the county has been inundated with calls from media and concerned citizens and has received countless emails and documents in opposition of the Narconon center proposal.
The YouTube video imbedded in this story, clearing indicates that citizens are furious and do not want this property designated as ‘historic’ so that Scientology can ‘slide in through the back door’ to open a Narconon center.
An excerpt from the meeting on YouTube published April 11, 2015: “Frederick County, Maryland – County Council Meeting video edited from 2.5 hours long to a about 11 minutes listening to concerned citizens about why the Scientology entity “Social Betterment Properties International” should not be approved to designate the property as “historical” – thus opening the back door for Scientology to open a Narconon drug rehab center.
