Shaw’s Crab House celebrates 30 years at 21 E. Hubbard St. this year. In the past three decades Shaw’s spearheaded the birth of the River North area and brought the oyster back to Chicago, raised the bar on fresh seafood here, and ushered in a new era of entertainment while dining. Here are a few special events you may want to make a reservation for this holiday season:
- Saturday, Dec. 27th: Triple Points for Shaw’s Oyster Bar 30th Anniversary!
Triple points will be available at both Shaw’s locations for Lettuce Entertain You Frequent Diners.
- Wednesday, Dec. 31 – New Year’s Eve: Ring in the New Year.
For one night only, in the Main Dining Room and Oyster Bar, guests will enjoy a tower of King Crab Bites, Stone Crab claws, Empress Crab Claws, Peeky Toe Crab, Golden King Crab, and two bottles of Moet Chandon ($100, serves two people). New Year’s Eve features the music of Big Dog Mercer in the Oyster Bar from 9 p.m. until 12 a.m.. In the Main Dining Room, an a la carte menu will serve Dover Sole, Nantucket Cape scallops, and Red King Crab; in both dining areas there will be a Champagne toast and complimentary oysters when the clock strikes midnight.
- Thursday, January 1 – New Year’s Day.
The fun continues into 2015, in the Main Dining Room from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., where guests sip Bloodies and chow down on one of the city’s most popular brunches for $55/person (up to two kids under 12 can eat for free). The New Year’s Buffet features make-your-own omelets, lobster bisque, beef tenderloin and crab legs, salads, and a cold seafood bar featuring sushi, oysters and crab bites. The regular menu begins again at 4:30 p.m. The Oyster Bar will be open from 11:30 am until 9 pm, with half-priced oysters from 4-6 p.m.
Newport Bar & Grill, 1344 W. Newport, is all about the sports. Sitting in the Southport corridor (less than a block from the Southport Brown line), it’s a sports-centric restaurant and bar that boasts handcrafted burgers, 16 beers on tap and 35+ craft bottles. It’s Chicago’s only Seattle Seahawks bar as well as an official University of Washington Huskies and Iowa Hawkeyes game watch spot. It also caters to neighborhood and visitor folk who love to watch sports in a cozy atmosphere. Here are a few events going on during the holiday season:
- Saturday, December 20 – Sweatpants Pub Crawl.
The final stop on the Wrigleyville Sweatpants Pub Crawl. From Midnight to Close, anybody who walks in the door will receive a raffle ticket to win tickets to the Bulls vs. Raptors game on Monday, December 22 at 7 pm. Swag giveaways.
- Sunday, December 28 – Bears vs. Minnesota /Brandon Marshall Foundation (BMF) Charity Game Watch.
$15 suggested donation gets you 15% off your tab and chances to win giveaways. All proceeds fund Project Prevent, a BMF partnership with Lurie Children’s Hospital to institute mental health awareness programs in Chicago Public Schools. From an initial 12 schools, BMF will expand the program in the next few years to encompass 200 CPS schools and over 250,000 students.
- Wednesday, December 31st – New Year’s Eve.
