The Temecula Valley Dachshund Club is hosting its Sixth annual Wine Country Wiener Fest on Sunday, May 3, 2015, from 11am to 4pm at the Mount Palomar Winery in Temecula, California.
This family friendly event offers games, raffles, local vendors, a silent auction, door prizes and wiener dog races throughout the day. For the adults there is wine tasting available and limited edition WCWF (Wine Country Wiener Fest) logo wine glasses. Raffle tickets are available for purchase pre-sale at Wienerfest.info and the day of the event. Both food and beverages are available for purchase pre-sale at Wienerfest.info as well as on the day of the event.
The highlight of each year’s WCWF is the “Dexter’s Derby” Dachshund races. Dachshunds of all ages and mixes are invited to sign up to race in one of four divisions which will be broken down into four heats each. The winner of each of the four divisions (puppies, adult, seniors, mixes) advances to the final race where each division winner will have the chance at becoming the next “Dexter’s Derby Grand Champion”. Dexter’s Derby is run in memory of a foster doxie named Dexter who suffered from a neurological disorder that prevented him from walking. 2014’s winner was Reggie Racer, who is a rescue Doxie owned by Melinda Smith of Corona and was adopted from the Sunny Oasis Rescue.
The WCWF will start at 11 a.m. and run through 4 p.m. when the new “Dexter’s derby Grand Champion” will be named. There will also be numerous Doxie games and contests throughout the day to include: guess the number of biscuits in the jar, longest and lightest wieners, best Doxie kisser, Doxie bingo and the “Destroy the Toy” competition, where the winner from last year set a record by removing the squeaker from a plush toy in 2 minutes and 36 seconds! There is also a Kentucky Derby style Extravagant Hat Contest.
