Ski Butternut Resort is normally open the last weekend in November until the 1st weekend in April. Within its 110 acres of skiing are 22 trails over two terrain parks, with 100% snowmaking. Its slopes are rated 20% beginners, 60% intermediate and 20% advanced. Its highpoint is 1,800’ with a 1000 ‘ drop with the longest run of 1.5 miles.
It has 11 ski lifts, with an uphill capacity of 14,999. There are 3 Quads, 1 triple, 1 Double chairlift and 4 Carpets. There is a popular 8-lane 500’ long tubing area with 200 tubes.

The town of Great Barrington has 7,104 population that Smithsonian Magazine ranked as #1 on its list of “The 20 Best Small Towns in America”. It is 20 miles south of Pittsfield, 46 miles west of Springfield, and 135 miles west of Boston and 134 miles north-northeast of New York City. Mohican Indians called the area Mahaiwe meaning ‘the place downstream’.
Pittsfield is a city of 44,737 population rated by Farmers Insurance in 2005 20th as ‘ Most Secure Places To Live’. The western part of the city is Pittsfield State Forest. It lies at the junction of route 7 and route 8. Route 41 starts in the southeast corner of the town heading south from route 20. US Interstate (Massachusetts Turnpike) is 10 miles south in Lee MA.
Pittsfield State Forest is an 11,000-acre park offering great outdoor experiences with hiking, camping, picnic area, Berry Pond and a swimming beach. Cross-country skiing trails are available during winter.
Great Barrington is a 4 ¼ hour drive of 270 miles from Rochester NY. Drive I-90 east past Albany into Massachusetts. Exit I-90 onto route 7 south following signs to Ski Butternut Resort.
