Stray dogs showed up to “guard” a funeral of a 71-year-old woman, who spent her life caring for abandoned stray dogs and cats. The strays that wandered into a Mexican funeral home shocked mourners, who were stunned at the uncanny tribute. Family members of the deceased were especially surprised – the funeral was held over 800 miles from her hometown.
Writes ABC News: “A woman who spent her life caring for stray dogs received an unexpected – and surprising – tribute from the animals when she died. At the funeral for Margarita Suárez in Cuernavaca Morelos, Mexico, there was a pack of stray dogs who came inside the funeral home to stand guard.”
The Cuernavaca Funeral Home hosted the funeral for Suárez, who was from Merida Yucatan. Employees at the funeral home said they never saw anything like it; stray dogs and animals rarely, if ever, wander through their open doors.
Suárez’s daughter, Patricia Urrutia, was moved.
“They stayed with my mother all day, and then at night the all stayed,” Patricia said. “But in the morning all the dogs vanished but one. But one hour before we brought my mom back to be cremated, the dogs came back and grouped around as if to say goodbye. I swear by God it was beautiful, marvelous.”
Urrutia posted some pictures of the amazing scene on her Facebook page back on March 15, saying the presence of the dogs helped her to cope with the first few difficult days.
“When I was in a moment of so much pain these dogs that came, they showed me that everything was going to be okay,” she told ABC.
