“Surviving Sam” is an upcoming dramedy centered around two divorced parents who still live together with their two daughters. Things are complicated between Ben and Sam Gallo, and that trickles down to their teenage daughter. On Dec. 29 the Chicago TV Examiner was granted an email interview with Gerry Plinio who plays Gerry Gallo, the teenage daughter of Ben and Sam Gallo. The character may seem like a typical teenage girl, but she is so far from ordinary.
It is always important that you connect with the script. When asked about what appealed to her when she read the “Surviving Sam” script, Gerry Plinio responded; “Gerry has such spunk! She is full of sarcastic comments while still having unconditional love for her parents. She wants them to love each other, but at the same time knows that they are too crazy to be considered normal!” Relating to the character you are going to be portraying is important. When asked whether or not she could relate to Gerry Gallo, Plinio replied; “I can certainly relate to her. I think many teenagers will be able to. She takes the viewpoint of ‘My parents are crazy,’ which just about every teenager has said at least once in their life.”
Filming with the cast is important. There has to be likability there and you have to feel comfortable in order to be able to really let loose and work. When asked about a favorite moment when filming with the cast, Gerry Plinio said; “Honestly, I don’t think I would be able to come to an official favorite moment. Everyone from the cast is so loving and welcoming, it’s really such a great experience that I am so lucky to be a part of! We have a lot of funny moments from behind the scenes and even acting when it’s time to get things done is such a fun time.”
As the character develops, so does the draw with the audience. When asked about a defining moment in Gerry Gallo’s life Gerry Plinio could relate to, she mentioned; “I really admire the relationship between Gerry and Sam. Gerry recognizes that Sam is not perfect, but still has such a close bond with her mother, something that I can definitely relate to in real life!” Plinio was asked for a little more information about her character, and she replied; “Gerry is pretty much your average, sarcastic, loving teenager that got stuck (but she would say it in a loving way) with these two crazy parents and a baby sister. Her family is close knit, as her cousin and uncle seem to blend into the immediate family as well. As for the rest, well you’ll just have to watch to see!”
“Surviving Sam” is tentatively premiering in February 2015 on TVtibi. Right now you can keep checking for updates on the “Surviving Sam” Facebook page or Twitter page. There are plenty of photos shared and updates regarding the progress of the show.
