As production for “Surviving Sam” gets underway, the cast is excited to talk about their characters. This dramedy is going to be the first original series for Tvtibi. It is similar to Hulu and Netflix, but you can stream it on any device. On Dec. 29 the Chicago TV Examiner was granted an email interview with Gina Destra who plays Gabby Crane on “Surviving Sam.” Destra’s character is a close friend of Ben Gallo and also works under him.
Reading a script is everything. How the character is written with either draw you to them or turn you completely off. When Gina Destra was asked about what part of Gabby Crane appealed to her, she replied; “Gabby is very outspoken which I love. Her one-liners are hilarious. She also has all these adorable quirks that are super intriguing. Her phobia of bees is shared with her boss, Ben which comes to light in episode two. There is so much growth with this character that can be developed.” It helps if you can relate to the character you play and when asked about whether or not Gabby Crane was relatable, Destra said; “I can definitely relate to Gabby because we both are unlucky in love. Sad but true.” When asked about more details regarding her character, Destra mentioned; “Gabby is vivacious and charismatic. Working in a male-dominated ad agency, she knows how to hang with the boys. Her boss is not only her employer but one of her closest friends as well and she truly has his best interest in mind, both professionally and personally.”
The chemistry you have with the entire cast is important. Working with several people who don’t get along can be nearly impossible. When Gina Destra was asked about her favorite moment in filming, she responded; “I am new to joining this amazing cast, yet filming the opening scene on the football field with everyone showed we all had immediate chemistry, something that is pretty rare too.” It appears that Gabby Crane has an important relationship with Ben, which translates into a good working relationship between Desta and Rob Magnotti. When asked about a defining moment in Gabby Crane’s life, Destra said; “Gabby has this fabulous line to her boss, which I feel is so powerful. After admiring Ben’s marriage for years and looking up to his ex-wife Sam and the life she had it finally dawns on Gabby that everything isn’t what it seems. In a scene with Ben she finally realizes that, ‘Suddenly Sam’s life doesn’t seem so great.'”
It appears that the release date for “Surviving Sam” is set for February of 2015. The cast and crew are still filming, so there are continuous streams of updates coming from the actors and “Surviving Sam” Facebook page and Twitter.
