As someone who loves exercise and fitness and has done everything possible to stay fit, I tend to ignore the gimmicks and schemes of paid programming for workout DVDs and pills. In all honesty, nothing in the form of a capsule, no matter how many people (usually paid actors) swear to it, will be an instant gratification for your weight loss. It is much better to simply watch what you eat (a.k.a. get rid of the junk in favor of natural and organic products) and get regular exercise than to focus all of your hopes and dreams for weight loss on a pill.
I still believe this—there is absolutely nothing that will cause me to drop big bucks on a magical weight-loss tablet. However, over the past few months, I have had trouble continuing to lose weight while being tempted by desserts and treats; remember, you can never out-exercise a bad diet. So, when I began to see advertisements for the new T-25 DVD workout program, I became interested.
I have had experience with Shaun T’s workout videos before, but not extensively. A few years back, one of my friends had bought Insanity and wanted to do the DVDs with someone after work—we could barely get through the warm-ups, and usually ended up in a giggling sweaty pile on the floor during the hot summer in the campus gym rather than attempting to continue. Since then, I’ve seen a lot regarding Shaun T on the TVs at my school gym and online, but because of the difficulty of the bare basics of Insanity, I usually pushed the adverts to the back of my mind.
For some reason or other, when I first saw the T-25 advertisement at the gym, I got interested. Tania, one of the women who worked out in the Insanity videos, was back and advertising T-25 (Yes, it’s obvious she’s a trainer or at least a partner of Beach Body, but she’s stuck around, and that’s what’s important!). Some of the other before-and-afters looked a little bit skeptical as well, but I was intrigued—and with each passing day it seemed that I was seeing T-25 commercials more and more.
So, finally, after being exposed to the marketing (great job marketing department), I gave in. And—although it’s only been a week—I’m already seeing results.
In the basic box-set, you receive the following, all packaged and sent to you from BeachBody’s Ohio corporate offices: (1) the Alpha Cycle DVD set, which includes a Cardio DVD, Speed 1.0, Total Body Circuit, Ab Intervals, and Lower Focus, (2) the Beta Cycle DVD set, which includes Core Cardio, Speed 2.0, Rip’t Circuit, Dynamic Core, and Upper Focus, (3) a Quick-Start Guide, (4) the Get It Done Nutrition Plan, and (5) the Alpha-Beta wall calendar. Through the BeachBody website, you can also attain four bonus gifts, which are: (1) the Stretch workout DVD, (2) the 5-Day Fast Track, (3) a Pro-Grade Resistance Band, and (4) 24/7 online support.
For a total price tag of $150 (which includes taxes and shipping), it may seem like a bit of a rip-off. And, trust me, when I was clicking through the payment on their site, I was having second thoughts. However—and I cannot stress this enough—Shaun T knows what he’s doing, and if you use the tools he’s giving you to succeed, you will get amazing results.
Although each of these workouts are only 25 minutes of your day—so you’ve got absolutely no excuses!—each one is going to kick your butt. For reference, I go to the gym or workout in my apartment or outside five to six times a week. This includes using weight machines and weightlifting two days a week, doing cardio machines (stationary bike, arch-trainer, stair-master, elliptical, treadmill, calisthenics), or walking (gotta get them daily 10,000 at least!). Hence, I wasn’t too worried about starting out with Shaun T. It couldn’t be that hard, right?
Wrong—but also, with good reason. Shaun T uses the 25 minutes in every workout to push your body to its brink and push you into adopting useful skills at a fast pace to get the most out of your workout. In each DVD, aside from doing basic movements like controlled squats and lunges, Shaun will vary these exercises to make sure that you’re working, and working hard. So far, the hardest DVD has been the Total Body Circuit, but each provides a challenge that you will work to overcoming and perfecting throughout the 10 weeks.
Today, I completed the Cardio DVD for the second time this week, as according to the calendar provided with the package and, although I was still sweating like a pig, I was able to move through the exercises and perfect them a lot more this time around compared to when I first did them on the first day of this cycle, this past Monday. Even though I may not be able to see changes in the mirror, my body has obviously changed substantially already with what it can do and what it will work to continue to do. I was thoroughly impressed, and cannot wait to do the Cardio DVD again this upcoming Monday to see if anything else has been perfected.
RESULTS THUS FAR
As we can see from my experience with the Cardio DVD thus far, your body will be able to perfect and continue working toward the movements Shaun T’s showcasing in each DVD in the program. Plus, if you start out with the modifier, modeled by Tania in the videos, you will soon be able to work your way up to the full movements.
When I started this program, it also made me think a great deal more about what I could change in my already-established daily activities and diet to get better results. Although I’m not following the Get It Done Nutrition Plan in the package, I am focusing a great deal more on bulking up my protein intake now, as well as making sure to get all of my fruits and veggies before even thinking of temptations (which I have largely strayed from, thank goodness). I’ve also tried my best to continue drinking a great deal of water every day, ranging from 3 to 5 liters per day. I’ve continued to go the gym along with working out to the DVDS, but I have further tried to get at least 20,000 steps per day on my FitBit to push myself to the edge.
Sure, it sounds like a fair deal of work along with a fair deal of money, but you know what? I’ve already lost a few pounds—which is more than I can say for all of those months when desserts and treats were calling to me instead of the stair-master.
If you can, check out the T-25 system. It is truly a fantastic investment, and can last you a fairly long time. Even if you aren’t completely set on losing a ton of weight, these DVDs provide you great cardio workouts, which you should be doing. You may, like I initially was, be turned off by the price, but it will pay you back in results. So don’t knock it until you try it!
