The Texas Renaissance Festival is one of the United States most acclaimed renaissance theme park and festival activities open to the public. As part of their activities, exhibits, and community involvement they include “School Days,” a program which offers educational and entertaining events and interactive activities for middle and high school students. These activities include: jousting knights, musicians, jesters and magicians perform on stages and in arenas throughout the village. Students have the opportunity to learn courtly dances, the ancient art of falconry, and the history of arms and armor. Artisans in period dress illustrate the technological advances of the Renaissance age through live demonstrations in pottery, glass blowing, blacksmithing, armor making and other arts and trades of this amazing period. The first every scholarship program now joins the event.
The Texas Renaissance Festival will award three $1,500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors each year. Awards will be will given to one candidate in each of the following categories
· A student planning to major in the Fine Arts
· A student planning to major in Education
· A student planning to major in history, English, or foreign language.
“We are excited to announce this Scholarship program for the very first time in our organization’s 40 years as part of our School Days program, which introduces and engages students in the Renaissance period,” says Kim Bryant, School Days coordinator for the Texas Renaissance Festival.
The scholarships will be awarded to students based on talent and academic performance, and are available to public, private, and homeschool students in the following counties: Harris, Montgomery, Walker, Grimes, Brazos, Washington, Austin, Waller, Burleson, Fort Bend, Brazoria, Galveston, Chambers, San Jacinto, and Liberty. Students who competed in any 2014 School Days Academic or Fine Arts Competition (excluding costume) are also qualified and invited to apply.
The deadline to apply for this scholarship is April 1, 2015. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or eligible resident. Applications for each scholarship category can be found online at http://texrenfest.com/scholarship.
