It’s not easy to find an all-season type of drop top that can offer room for four, packed full with performance, and offer plenty of style. Well, the newly renamed Infiniti Q60 is capable of all that and more. In just a short 25 seconds, the Q60 can go from grand touring sport coupe to open-air cabriolet all by the hold of a button. The symphony of sheet metal collapsing into the rear tonneau, or trunk is also bound to be a showstopper once the performance begins.
The IPL nomenclature injects a higher degree of sport then what is typically found in the conventional Q60. Starting from the front, and edgier front lower fascia adds an aggressive appeal to the already performance oriented convertible. A dark gray finish on the aggressive multispoke wheel also adds a level of sport, and differentiates the IPL from is general sibling. Yet, around the rear probably is where you’ll find the most “notable” difference of the IPL. An extra large dual exhaust promises horsepower gains, and a throat-ier sound, especially when the engine crank is pushed above 3100 RPMs.
On the inside, the dashboard carries over from the conventional Q60, and offers technology a plenty. An integrated, full screen displays all functions as it relates to navigation, audio, and HVAC. As Infiniti continues to build its reputation on technology, front seat passengers may find the integrated Bose headrest speakers to be useful, especially when the top is down. The test vehicle was nicely appointed in deep red leather that covered each seat offering a sport infused luxury feel.
The new Infiniti Q60 IPL has few competitors, but challenges the idea of conventional thinking of the traditional convertible by using a proper hardtop. Although the convenience and flexibility of this design offers plenty of pros, the only con is the ability to use the full space of the luggage boot. However, in real world testing, I found plenty of space for an overnight bag in the rear, and placed my supplemental luggage in the rear seat with no problem. Yet, the body of this convertible remains true to the mission of attractive design that carries through the entire Infiniti portfolio with both the top up or down.
The Infiniti Q60 IPL broadens the scope for the buyer that demands a sports coupe the underlines sophistication with a high level of sport. Without any doubt the Q60 IPL should be added to any buyers subset of vehicle consideration. Offering the best of all worlds of sports, sun, and fun, this Infiniti is sure to please even the most particular buyer. For more information, visit the Q60 IPL on the web at infiniti.com.
